Track By Tracks: Break The Chains - Last Man Standing (2015)

  1. Don’t Cross My Way:
The opening track is also the longest one of this EP. It has a lot of different parts and leads through our style of music. It has 2-steps, groove parts, and also a rap-style influenced part. The lyrics are about false friends and people who always smile at you but behind your back they only talk shit about you. I think it happened to most of us and the feeling you have when you finally notice that you have been faked all the time is just shattering. Never spend your time with them. It’s absolutely not worth it!
  1. Show Your Teeth:
Show Your Teeth is a song we wrote back in 2012, the year we started, and we are planning to shoot a video for it. It starts with a fast, punkish part and flows into the slower break which leads over to the 2-step.  What we want to say with that song is that you should stand for yourself and fight back if someone attacks you;  Physically but also verbally. It’s a reaction to the people who rather wear a pink shirt with “Bullying is a bad thing” on it instead of facing it and trying to manage it.
  1. Last Man Standing:
The title track starts off with a Slayer-style riff which is followed by a groovy rhythm. It has more the typical song structure, as we’ve got an intro section, a verse and a chorus, and they are being repeated. Many of our songs are short and parts of the song only appear once. At the end of the song we let the Beatdown in and slowed the intro riff down. This one is about fighting against everything that stands in your way. It’s important to keep on moving and never ever stop doing what you stand for and what you want to reach in life. But in order to reach that you have to work hard and stay in motion!
  1. BOB:
This song’s name has a funny story. We once were rehearsing and we wrote a setlist for our upcoming show. Our former bass player read the short form “B.o.R.”, which was the song’s name at that time. The letters were pretty sloppy, so he thought the song was called “BOB”. Since then, this is our Bob. It’s a pure and fast thrasher with two breakdowns and a lot of double bass drumming. The lyrics are about a fictitious person who is about to get crucified after murder. He swears to pay the torture back and keeps on thinking that he is innocent. His execution is unstoppable and people watch him die, standing around him. The quintessence of the story is that he is mentally ill and thinks that he is in the right and everybody wants to harm him.
  1. Jump Or Fall:
Jump Or Fall is a groove song. It keeps its speed throughout the whole 3 minutes, with a breakdown and a 2-Step at the end. This track is about the two different ways you have in life: One life, one choice. Don’t be late to choose the right way for you before somebody else chooses for you. You whether jump or you fall and it’s mostly up to you. Never get influenced badly by anybody and make your own decisions in order to live the life you want.
  1. Stay Strong:
Let’s say it how it is: Stay Strong is the first song we’ve ever written as Break the Chains, even before the “Southside Hardcore” songs, so we simply needed some lyrics and wrote a short hardcore clichĂ© text. It’s not even 2 minutes long, but it’s a song we always love to play life. It has everything a Break the Chains song needs.
  1. Time To Strike:
We chose this song to be the last one because it faders out at the end. It has that “anthem-character” because the chorus is full of gangshouts so we thought that this is the best place on the EP for it. The text is about not looking back if you made mistakes in the past. If something really bad happened or you feel guilty for something you did but there is just no way to change it today, leave it behind you and focus on the future. Don’t trap yourself in self-pity and strike back with everything you’ve got!
