Interviews: Ten Miles Wide

In this new occassion we have had the opportunity to interview the  Rock  band Ten Miles Wide , from USA. Check out this band and give them a like on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

It's a confusing story, but here it goes. About six years ago, we had a slightly different band lineup and our band name was The Mothership. We did two albums under this name, and the first one released in 2011 was called "Ten Miles Wide". In late 2014 we realized that another band had trademarked the name Mothership, and we knew we needed to change ours while keeping a link to our earlier albums. After a year of deliberating over band names, we just chose the name of our first record from our previous band.

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

Rock music is what we all grew up with, and it just comes naturally to us. Seattle has always been a heavier sounding city, and to say that didn't influence us would be a lie. We do like to branch out beyond straight-ahead rock and dip into different textures.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Absolutely! We all came from different bands in the music scene, and we all were big fans of each other's respective bands. It took more than a few years to actually start jamming together, but when we did, it clicked pretty quickly because we already had a mutual admiration and understanding of our individual strengths.

4. Each band member favourite band?

We're all into way different bands, and we only tend to overlap a little bit with our favorites. John is into lots of Dan Auerbach stuff, Sleepy Sun, Doors, Sabbath, Nirvana, Deftones, and lots of bluesy rock stuff, yet Jake's favorite band is Guns N' Roses. Ryan is more into hardcore and metalcore stuff like Norma Jean, and I'm into all kinds of styles and genres. I love King Crimson, Hella, Zach Hill solo stuff, Killing Joke, Meshuggah, Gustav Holst, Miles Davis, Brian Eno and all kinds of random ambient stuff.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

We love writing music that gives us a feeling. As long as we're feeling it, we're gonna keep it and work at it and get it to where we all like it. Someone will usually shout "lame!" if we're going in the wrong direction for too long on a piece of music, so we're good at keeping ourselves in check. Lyrics are usually inspired by personal experience. Sometimes they're lyrics that have been tweaked for years, and sometimes they are written the night before they are recorded.

6. Where was your last gig?

Seattle, Washington USA

7. Where would you like to act?

Anywhere but Seattle, Washington USA. We'd love to tour Europe and Japan but we'd settle for a west coast USA tour.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

We've played with so many of our favorite bands in Seattle, so I think we'd love to open for some big band that inspired us when we were honing our skills. Soundgarden, for instance, would be a dream come true.

9. Whom not?

Disgusting, corporate, musically vapid bands or bands that sound like they are just out to make a buck.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Not really, and if you get stage fright, just picture everyone in the crowd naked.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Aside from the ones mentioned above, Radiohead, Zeppelin, Soundgarden, and lots of video game music.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

"Can you guys be the backing band on my new album?" The answer to that question will be "no" 99.9% of the time.

13. What do you think of your fans?

We love our fans! They're super diverse, and some of them are absolutely crazy. One of our favorite fans named Frankie flew from the UK to Seattle to see us play and mooned the crowd during our show. It was pretty epic.

14. What do you think of our site?

We appreciate anybody, site, company, whoever that promotes the music that they like.
