Interviews: Dreams Of Demise

In this new occassion we have had the opportunity to interview the Metalcore band Dreams Of Demise, from USA. Check out this band and give them a like on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

The name actually was conceived in 2012 by some other musicians in our area. The evolution of lineup changes and style of music made the band what it is today. Carlos, our drummer is the only original member dating back to the first show that is still in the band to this day.

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

Carlos: A majority of this band was inspired by the music scene of 2007-10. Band such as The Word Alive, The Devil Wears Prada, We Came as Romans, Miss May I were the prime examples since they all had fast tempos, amazing guitar riffs and all the synth and programming that was created. And the technical aspects as well.

Luis: The feeling of the music.

Seth: It's simply just fun.

Gareth: I was raised on Slayer and Maiden, and as I grew up I started to develop my own taste and it's evolved from there to what I enjoy today. And I also agree with what Carlos said as well.

Max: Because I like this style of music and in my heart its always been what i knew i wanted to play.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Gareth: I knew Seth, Max and Carlos before the band was formed, Carlos and myself were in a band prior that ended up not taking off and I've been friends with Max and Seth for years.

Seth: Yes.

Luis: Not really, I met them through a former member of the band. I knew Jose  though.

Carlos: Yes, I knew Gareth and Max. I had prior knowledge of Jose and Luis because they were in another band that we used to play with.

Max: I knew Gareth and carlos before I joined.

Jose: I knew Luis before joining the band but not the other members.

4. Each band member favourite band?

Max (Guitar): Metallica

Carlos (Drums/Programming): Silent Planet

Gareth (aggressive/clean vocals): Bring Me The Horizon for more recent music. Alice In Chains for older music.

Luis(Guitar): Rose Funeral

Jose(aggressive vocals): Lorna Shore

Seth(Bass): Chelsea Grin

5. Who or what inspires you to write
songs?

Gareth: It depends on what I'm trying to write. I'm into a lot of different kinds of music so I guess I would have to say the emotion and the vibes I feel at the time of writing. Real life situations also play a part in some of my writing as well.

Seth: My uncle is my biggest inspiration, he got me started on bass playing.

Luis: Matt Tuck from Bullet For My Valentine.

Carlos: I don't really have much inspiration from other people, I just love writing music.

Jose: I don't really have inspirations I mainly just write songs based off what our narrative is.

6. Where was your last gig?

We played at a little bar in Bensalem, PA called Final Score on December 28th. It was an awesome show and the people there were super cool.

7. Where would you like to act?

Seth: The Fillmore (Philly) or the TLA (Philly).

Gareth: I would love to play on Warped Tour someday, but if we're talking specific venues then I would have to say Chain Reaction in California.

Luis: The TLA or the Electric Factory (Philly).

Carlos: The North West region of the United States.

Max: I would love to play the electric factory.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Gareth: I would love to get Tyler Dennen from Sworn In on one of our songs. Also between you and me, Chris Fronzak would be dope too.

Seth: Jason Richardson

Jose: CJ of Thy Art Is Murder.

Max: I dont have a single person in mind, but I'd love to play with anyone who respects the music the same way I do.

9. Whom not?

Gareth: That's kind of tough, but I'm gonna have to say without a doubt I wouldn't see myself featuring with Beyoncé. Ya know, just because she's a pop star.

Seth: Oliver Sykes

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Max: Ive never had stage fright, and for any advice I'd say go out there and do whats in your heart. Go out there and kill it

Gareth: I'm actually a very shy person in front of people I don't know, especially a crowd of people. But I get over the fear because playing music is something that I love doing, and when I start to play our set  I feel free of any worries. Love what you do and you won't ever be afraid to show it off.

Seth: I've honestly never had stage fright.

Jose: I've never gotten stage fright, and my only tip to the beginners would be to just go for it and do you. Don't let anything stop you.

Luis: Yes I have, but my advice is to pretend you're in your bedroom and just jam out!

Carlos: As someone who did marching and concert band, the best thing to fighting stage fright is to simply make everything feel like you're at home practicing with your friends.

11. What bands have inspired you the
most?

Gareth: I can't say it's one band in particular, but more so a genre and time period. I take a lot of influence in the early 2000s post hardcore scene. Bands like From First To Last, The Used, and many others of that genre.

Luis: Rose Funeral and Bullet For My Valentine.

Seth: Periphery, Shokran, Polyphia, Chelsea Grin and Monuments.

Carlos: For drumming style I always looked for fun, unique yet technical playing. So that matches with the bands that inspire me which are Kingdom of Giants, Miss  May I, Silent Planet, and Slice the Cake.

Max: The bands that inspired me the most would be bands like Metallica. Kirk Hammett is who inspired me to even pick up a guitar.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Gareth: Might not be exactly a fan asking for anything, but one time my friend Giovanni bought one of our pins that we sold as merch and put it into his nipple piercing. It was great.

Seth: If they can touch my beard.

13. What do you think of your fans?

Gareth: They mean the world to me! I appreciate every single person that supports the band and me personally while perusing my passion.

Seth: Our fans are family, I love them all.

Jose: I don't look at our fans as fans, they're family. I love all my bros and sisters who support us.

Luis: They are awesome.

Carlos:  The amount of support for any band and their fans is amazing, whether it be 50 people to 22,000; each band will always count on them and will cherish every single one.

Max: I love my fans. Its amazing to think that people really like something I created and I think its a really special feeling.
