Interviews: Relations

In this new occassion we have had the opportunity to interview the Hardcore band Relations, from Germany. Check out this band and give them a like on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

The idea came when we sat together during a rehearsal prior to our first gig. We thought it would be a cool ter to express the connection between us a individuals. Also it can be seen as a description for all things going on in this world that are relating to one another.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

We all grew up listening to heavy music so it was always kind of a childhood dream to start a band. so this was all coming together really naturally and has always been what we wanted to do.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Me (Ray one of the two singers) and Michael who is our drummer have been friends for more than 15 years now and the other ones kind of joined after the demise of our first project. But we all grew close friends and that's what's keeping us going in the first place.

4. Each band member favourite band?

Hard to make out really :D Our guitarist Jakob listens to a lot of black metal (Darkthrone, Saytiricon, Death and so on). Our bassist "Noodle" is mainly a metal guy (slayer,behemoth..) but always had a warm spot for hardcore. Me and Michael are coming from a metalcore/hardcore background and Flo who is our second vocalist is really into beatdown and heavy hardcore (think nasty, knocked loose) but also loves slipknot and stone sour. Personally I enjoy enjoy all kinds of genres but especially bands like Slipknot, Comeback Kid, Terror, Bane, Misery Signals and Converge really got me into starting a band.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

I'm inspired mainly by personal issues and my own demons I have to deal with. But there is nothing in particular from which I draw my inspiration. There is also a lot social and political things which are driving me to write lyrics. I thought hardcore and heavy music should always be about being yourself and standing up for what you believe so this is my outlet for it.

6. Where was your last gig?

Our last gig was in Essen, Germany (Ruhrpott) with our good friends in Never Back Down and Way Too Far (check them out!!).

7. Where would you like to act?

If to act is in meant in the sense of playing then I would love to set up a small EU tour in the first place. But of course I`d love to play the state or australia as well, but we`ll see if this will happen sooner or later (hopefully sooner haha)

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

I can only speak for myself but I would die to get a feature from Jacob Bannon, Cory Putman, Scott Vogel or Keith Buckley because they are some of my most favourite vocalists. But the list is way too long to be honest. Our second singer would sell his right arm for a Corey Taylor feature. haha.

9. Whom not?

I´d never would want a feature of some Asking Alexandria members.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

I know our bassist is sometimes a little shaky prior to a show which is strange because he is the oldest guy (36) in the band. Other than that we are used to play live by now so there is no really stage anxiety anymore. Hmm my tip would be to just go out and do it for yourself. If you are having fun then the crowd will also have fun. If that`s not working try having a few drinks before haha

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

This is a reaaaally tough question. I am such a music nerd that I can not break it down to one specific act. But if I had to choose 5 out of all it would most definitely be: Converge, Deftones, Slipknot, Misery Signals and Norma Jean

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

We had some guy who wanted to be our official manager after he saw us play for the first time. He was super weird. Really hard to describe but you could not make out if he was drunk or totally out of his mind.

13. What do you think of your fans?

I do not know if we really have fans. There are some people who seem to enjoy what we do and that is awesome as fuck. Of course we do write music for ourselves first of all but if you like what you hear that makes it ten times more enjoyable for us. So thank you all for supporting us in any way.

14. What do you think of our site?

I think you do a great job and I am extremely thankful that you give us the opportunity to present ourselves. Scenes and sites like you are helping in a great way to keep this music alive and push more unknown bands to a wider audience.

15. Something to add?

Thank you for this interview. It was a pleasure! See you soon :)
