Interviews: Sad Vegan

In this new occassion we have had the opportunity to interview the Pop Punk/Rock/Emo band Sad Vegan, from USA. Check out this band and give them a like on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name?

"I based the idea of the name Sad Vegan off of my friends instagram bio. It said something along the lines of '17 years old, Happy Vegan'. I ended up teasing her about it by threatening to name my newly formed band Sad Vegan. After that it just happened to stick and from that point on we couldn't bring ourselves to get rid of it."

2 .Why did you want to play this genre?

"We ended up playing alternative rock because it really seemed like a middle ground between all of our different musical influences. It was also what came naturally of out jamming together."

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

"Yes! Matt and I used to play to in hard rock band a while back called SE7EN DEAD. Sydney and I have known each other since we were young.  We had also all met Josh a couple times because we used to play shows with his old band Easy Target. Josh was also in another band too called Already Afternoon which featured our current drummer Logan.

4. Each band member's favourite band?

"Other than Sydney and I, we all have extremely opposite favorite bands. It's an interest dynamic but it really does help when it comes to bringing different ideas to the table while writing. For Sydney and I, it has to either be Dance Gavin Dance or Circa Survive while Matt's a huge Guns N' Roses fan. Josh is a big Beatles fan while Logan's favorite is Sigur Rós."

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

"A huge personal inspiration for me is Anthony Green. I really admire the musician he is and how honest the music he makes is. Just listening to any of the records he's been apart of always makes me question what I can do to improve my own writing. It's guys like him that are pushing the boundaries of what one can do with music."

6. Where was your last gig?

"Our last gig was a DIY hometown show in my garage. We got a bunch of our good friends from the local scene such as New Fossils and Glass Garden to jump on the bill to come party with us. I think everyone had a really good time."

7. Where would you like to play?

"We'd love to play Warped Tour, thats always been a goal of ours!"

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

"I think it would be really cool to work with Kurt Travis, Will Swan or just basically any artist from the swancore scene."

9. Whom not?

"No one comes to mind at the moment, but I think it's really important to stay away from people with negative energy around them, so probably someone like that."

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

"Luckily I think we all feel pretty confident performing because we love doing it and we've been doing it for a while, but I think for anyone they'll always be that anxiety right before you go on. My best advice is to embrace the nervous feeling you get and turn it into energy so you can go crazy up there."

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

"When it comes to our sound I think Dance Gavin Dance had a huge influence by inspiring us to really play with the rhyme structure of our lyrics. Another important band was Bayside, they we're a big inspiration instrumentally, especially while writing 'Another Life, Another Day'. For the stuff we're currently writing Brand New and Circa have both played a huge role."

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

"There weirdest fan interaction we've ever had was at a halloween show. There was this dude dressed up as the joker and during our set he kept punching and kicking people while their back was turned. Everyone was having fun moshing and jumping around but this dude took it way to far. It was apparent he was really drunk and out of control. We called him out for it so he asked to fight us. Not sure if that counts but it was the first thing that came to mind! Anyway the venue ended up kicking right after that. No one knew who he was but apparently he came to see Sad Vegan which was unfortunate. It was a super weird experience.

13. What do you think of your fans?

"To anyone who supports this band or our music you have no idea how much we appreciate you! You guys are the best! And to the people who can't get into the music, you're still rad and we appreciate you too for giving us a chance."

14. What do you think of our site?

"Your sites awesome! I really liked the fact that you guys had an article about the Mom Jeans tour, those guys make incredible music and it was cool to see them on a site like yours!"

15. Something to add?

"Thank you so much for the interview and for those who haven't heard it yet our debut EP 'Another Life, Another Day' just came out, so go give it a listen!"
