Interviews: Drops Of Heart

In this new occassion we have had the opportunity to interview the Post-Metal band Drops Of Heart, from Russia. Check out this band and give them a like on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

The band name was coined by our vocalist Den in 2009, and it was slightly modified title of his favorite track (the title was something like “heat drops” or “drops of warmth”). The idea of band name is very simple – our music, our lyrics like parts of our souls, parts of our hearts. Drops of our hearts.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

After the reunion in 2013, our band was focused on playing melodic and heavy music. After a couple of years we realized that we want our music to be not just melodic, but also modern and atmospheric. Most of the members of the band grew up on melodic death metal: bands like Insomnium, In Flames, Omnium Gatherum, Dark Tranquility had a great influence on our style and inspired us to take the first steps. But we love and listen not only melodic death, of course. Post metal, post black, post rock, black metal and groove metal had also affected.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Denis and Vadim met before the game in the drops of heart. They decided to revive the group, playing in the now defunct deathcore band Severed Second. Igor joined almost immediately after the reunification. He was not directly acquainted with Denis, but they had common friends and he found out that the band had resumed its activities with help of these acquaintances. Also Vadim and Artem played together in Monpilat (Now it’s a one-man- band post metal project of Vadim)

4. Each band member favourite band?

This is a very difficult question, because each of us listens to a lot of different music, from Japanese mat-rock to grindcore ...Our tastes are very diverse and not limited only to metal, we can really appreciate really good pop music, neoclassic, etc. The genre is not important, it’s important that what the music can bear to its listeners

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

We draw inspiration everywhere - movies, music, nature, outdoor activities and people relations are some of the main sources. Often the ideas of songs are born spontaneously, some melody can come to mind even during a walk and if we like it, we just write it into a sequencer or play the guitar. Sometimes songs are started to born from improvisation, when you sit and play some training reefs or guitar exercises - for example, the song “Ржавое Цевье” ("Rusty Forearm" album “A New Hope”, 2014). Some songs are written in the process of impressing from listening to bands of our favorite genres.

6. Where was your last gig?

Our last concert at the moment was in our hometown of Ufa, in a bar called Rock' s Café and the gig was coincided to upcoming New Year. We play there regularly and even our first concert after the reunion took place in that place.

7. Where would you like to act?

We would love to perform our music at Rock Am Ring and other major metal festivals. Also we would like to go on a world tour and show everyone what the Russian metal is!

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

You ask this question in the right time! Because we are just preparing some cool feature with great and pretty famous metal singer. We all are big fans of his band and it was a honor to work with him. But let it be the surprise for your readers and our listeners. In general, we have a lot of plans and wishes to the different features on the next album. But these are only just plans and wishes. And of course we would like to make feat with some melodic metal masters like Mikael Stanne or Bjorn Gelotte. But the question is whether they agree.

9. Whom not?

Russian oldschool pop-stars. It really sucks. And maybe artists whose music is politically oriented.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Of course we had. We think that all musicians must pass through this. Here’s the advice to beginners: Don’t try to control yourself, try to concentrate as much as possible on enjoying the playing and performance. Try to “ignite” the public as much as possible. The more relaxed they are, the more confident and easier you feel on the stage. Do not be afraid to show your emotions, sometimes it's completely natural and normal to make mistakes, metal concerts are not the place where you play your songs perfectly, it's more important to get emotional feedback, to unite with the audience through your songs. And if you really love music, love your songs - you will definitely get a good show and find drive you need. Remember, excitement is absolutely normal. Do not stifle your fear of alcohol, let your mind relax and smile to the public.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Most of all, we were influenced by such bands as Insomnium, Ghost Brigade, Dark Tranquillity and Omnium Gatherum. They and their mix of melodies, heaviness and atmosphere were become who influenced our decision to choose the path that we follow now.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

To leave an autograph is not a big deal today, so if we don’t take it into account, the weirdest thing was obsessive requests to teach them to play instruments. More obsessive than you think. It was almost scary.

13. What do you think of your fans?

We think that they are not many yet and they can be completely different people with different lives. But this people are united by love to music we play and love too. So, to some extent, we are native people. One big metal family.

14. What do you think of our site?

You have a great site, guys! We can say it without any hesitations.

15. Something to add?

We want to thank all those who are interested in our work and listen to our music. You are the best, we love you! Follow the news, we have many surprises for you. Be cool and listen to the heavy music!
