Interviews: CON-FOMED

In this new occasion we have had the opportunity to interview the Metalcore/Grindcore/Hardcore band CON-FORMED, from Singapore. Check out this band and give them a like on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

The band name was suggested by my guitarist,Nas, who got the inspiration from one of Nails's song called " Conform/Scum will rise". We put a "-" to it to make it look a little different and voila, you have CON-FORMED!

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

We wanted to play something aggressive and fast. One of our earlier influences was the band from Poland called Antigama. We love that they had this technical aggressiveness despite being a grindcore band. Therefore, we decided to add some of those technical aspect into our music as well. Moving forward, we'll be adding a bit more darker tone to our songs so stay tuned for that.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

The band was formed by my drummer, Achid, and my guitarist, Nas, who were friends for 10 years and counting. I knew Achid a few years ago through my other guitarist from another of my band, WHB and Achid had once session for us before. After which, he invited me to try for this new band that he's forming with Nas and we gelled pretty well after my try out.  After WHB disbanded, i roped in Pandemic to be our bassist and just recently, we got a 2nd vocalist (Ace) who is a good ol' friend of mine to add more dynamics to our sound.

4. Each band member favourite band?

KNGHTMRE (Vocals): Benighted
ACE  (Vocals): Lamb of God
Nas (Guitars): Black Sabbath
Pan (Bass): Slayer
Achid (Drums): Megadeth

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

The shit that's happening around us and the world. There's too much obsession with war, hate and power going on right now so most of our songs are written around that theme.

6. Where was your last gig?

At a sweet local venue called Lithe House. We were opening for a grind-noise musician called SpaceGrinder from Japan. Tight venue, great line up and so much fun.  7. Where would you like to act? VICTORIA SECRET FASHION SHOW. i can happily quit the band after that. 2nd choice would be the New England Metal & Hardcore fest.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Oh this is a tough one.  Probably Rise of the Northstar, Ghoul, Unearth, Benighted, Corrupt Leaders,Young and in the way, Trap them, Svffer , (Hed)P.E, Archspire, Origin.  These bands kick major asses and they are a monster on stage. Gonna be fun.

9. Whom not?

All those alternate right/neo nazis musicians. There's no room for racism in our scene. Oh and also, Justin Bieber and........ Bring me the horizon.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

I almost had a panic attack right before playing our first show! I have always been playing shows with my other band for the past 10 years so it felt weird playing with a new band and that somehow got into my head. i freaked out and started going through my lyrics again 5 mins before our set, haha. Fortunately, everything went pretty smoothly.

My advice - if you're well prepared then there's really nothing to worry about. Also, keep calm and whatever happen, just have fun. During live shows, expect the unexpected so if you can accept that fact then you're good to go. If looking at the eyes of the crowd makes you even more nervous, then look far ahead. Don't ever perform with your back to the crowd, you don't want the crowd to know that you're unprepared or nervous and you'll lose your stage presence because of that. The crowd won't be able to feel and feed off your energy and the moment that happens, you will lose their attention.  You want them to feel the intensity of your performance rather than being distracted by the phone in their hand or the people around them. Every show is a learning experience, even for me!

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

I grew up listening to nu metal bands haha and slowly developed a taste for more faster crazier stuff. So it's only normal that most bands that inspired me are from the nu metal era.  But once i started venturing into other sub genres, my inspirations started to change as well - This gift is a curse, The taste of blood, Embrace the end, Crowpath, Into the Moat, She said Destroy, His Hero is Gone,The Berzerker, Bloodbath, Trap them, Noisem, Benighted, Converge , Misery Index , Gridlink , Psycroptic , Nails , Rotten Sound, Cephalic Carnage, Burning Skies, Facebreaker, Anaal Nathrakh, YAITW.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

So far, nothing weird yet. Let's keep it that way haha.

13. What do you think of your fans?

I would like to think of them as friends though cause i don't really think we are that big or famous to have fans yet. But everyone has been supportive and kind towards us so that's awesome.

14. What do you think of our site?

Love it! It's really easy to navigate, informative and features a lot of cool bands and music. It's a great platform for underground music lovers.

15. Something to add?

Support your local shows and if you like what you're hearing, go buy the band's album or merchs!
