Interviews: Fading Away

In this new occassion we have had the opportunity to interview the Metalcore band Fading Away, from Spain. Check out this band and give them a like on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

We actually had a name before Fading Away, but it was already being used so we had to come up with a new one. We did a poll and ended up choosing from there.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

We would say genres. We like several different subgenres so why not playing or mixing some of them? We are quite open-minded about incorporating elements from various other styles and that’s what we try to do.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

We all knew each other, some of us already had bands that were going nowhere so we decided to join forces and do something a bit more significant and serious. Our new drummer was the only one we didn’t know. He joined us a year and a half ago.

4. Each band member favourite band?

Ima: Coheed and Cambria, Monuments
Sao: The Ghost Inside, A day to Remember
Alex M: The human Abstract, The Dear Hunter
Alex L: Nine Inch Nails
Barreto: Rise Against
Víctor: Symphony X

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

We try to write about the things that made us who and what we are as a band, as well as everything we have been through individually.

6. Where was your last gig?

In Valencia, in front of 15 people in a horribly booked gig with Sonic Syndicate.

7. Where would you like to act?

Anywhere? We always joked about playing at Wacken, but we would like to make it to Resurrection fest or Download festival Spain next year. That’s what we’re aiming for but there’s still a lot of work to do.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Our dream would be to feature any band that has had an influence on us: A Day To Remember, The Ghost Inside, Coheed and Cambria, Protest the hero, Monuments... But that sounds quite far-fetched though. So, being a bit more realistic, we would very much like to share stage with big national bands such as Against the Waves or Dawn of The Maya.

9. Whom not?

We don't think there's any gig we wouldn't do. Even if we don't like the genre or the music, we may like their members and make some good friends for later.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Not exactly stage fright, just nerves and some soft anxiety, not every day do you have the opportunity to play in front of 12 people! (Laughing) The problems came later when we saw ourselves play on video. The cringe was real! We definitely had to step up our game when it came to performing on stage. What we did was watch our videos and try to improve our performance. It’s a key factor to watch lots of shows, local or big, and try to learn how bands behave on stage. That's the point of everything, being honest and admitting our mistakes and weaknesses and trying to improve from them.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Probably Monuments, A Day To Remember, Veil of Maya, Coheed and Cambria, Rise Against, Monuments, Hands Like Houses...

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

To play one more song! We were like ‘bro, this folk next to the pinball wants us to play another one!’

13. What do you think of your fans?

We can count on them whenever we have a gig here in Alicante or close, that's all you can ask from your brothers, to have them when you need them the most. It’s all about support.

14. What do you think of our site?

We think you guys are doing a superb job with the site. For us as a band, having a webpage like this where bands are given a lot of support and promotion is extremely important.

15. Something to add?

Our album ‘Mend Sails’ will be out in September, go check it out! In the meantime, hit us up on our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/FadingAwayMusic/ for more information.

See you around and thank you for the interview.
