Interviews: Shot Down South

In this new occasion we have had the opportunity to interview the Metalcore band Shot Down South, from USA. Check out this band and give them a like on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

I can attest that picking a band name is the hardest thing in music to do. No matter what, you will always think it could have been better... it's a long story but in short, we liked the idea of a name that represented where we are from (the south) and it sort of sprung from that.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

We really like the versatility of the genre, think about it, Metalcore can be anything! Heavy guitars, intricate drums, both screaming and clean vocals, you can add whatever else to it as well and it just works! Piano, Orchestra, i mean in the middle of a song, you can have an edm moment and turn the concert into a rave in the matter of seconds if you wanted to! It's just fun to experiment with really.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Yes, me, clay, and brandon have been friends since daycare. I'm talking 1 and 2 years old! We haven't stopped hanging out since. I trust these guys with my life...

4. Each band member favourite band?

Jesse: Asking Alexandria
Dylan: Slipknot
Clay: Lamb of God
Brandon: Five Finger Death Punch

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

There are a million different answers for this but, I write songs because it is something that I enjoy doing. I'm not out doing this for attention, or lusting for others approval. It's almost an out of body experience watching these things come together. Over the years I have organized my process in such a way that I will never hit writers block. Once the inspiration strikes , it's almost like putting a puzzle together.

6. Where was your last gig?

Our last show was at The Masquerade on the "Transitions tour" with Fame on Fire. It was easily the best show we ever had.

7. Where would you like to act?

I'd like to have another show at Ground Zero in South Carolina. That Venue is awesome!!!

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

We've already had Josh from Megosh, Kia from Conquer Divide, and Bryan from Fame on Fire feature in one of our songs. My next goals would be, Jonny from Nothing More, Ben Bruce from Asking Alexandria, Devin from I See Stars, Aaron from Jamies Elsewhere / Of Mice and Men Any of those guys, true inspirational people right there...

9. Whom not?

We had 2 guys that were originally going to feature on one of our songs but after they basically took our money and spat in our faces, We won't be letting them anywhere near our songs again... I won't blast their names because I respect their art. However, as general people, they both are terrible and karma will catch up to them. There is so much more id like to say on the topic but i'll keep it short with that.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Yea we all had stage fright at one point. the best way to handle that is to come to the stage with content you care about... I was in a cover band the first couple shows I ever played and we were not prepared at all... We sucked and there were tons of mistakes, couldn't even get through a couple songs. But now that I am with this group of guys and playing music that we write, stage fright doesn't even exist for us now... Every show is another opportunity to make new friends and show each person there exactly what we are about and what we have worked all these years on...

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Nothing more is a band after my own heart... They share the same Genuine intent that I do... They are the "realest" band out there no doubt. I See Stars is another. They have so many writing techniques that they bring to the table with every release they do... Devin Oliver is a seriously Hard working song writer. He has to spend every waking moment of his life developing new and exciting tricks to his method. Asking Alexandria because that is a good example of a band that has been drug through the mud, kicked and beaten through the music scene. Ben Bruce specifically reminds me a lot of myself. He is the mastermind behind that band and his drive to continue through the crap the music industry has drug him through is something that I personally take away from his character. Aaron Pauley when he was in Jamies Elsewhere put so much creativity in that band. His vocal melodies and lyrics are absolutely mind blowing... I have sat down with his lyrics and studied them for months... No one can touch his creativity back then...

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

No one has asked for anything weird or out of the ordinary yet unfortunately.

13. What do you think of your fans?

When I look into a crowd of people on stage... I don't see "fans," I see friends... I could look out and spot every face and know exactly what their name is and how I met them. Music brings people together, and every person i meet along the way I try to stay in regular contact with. ~Jesse

14. What do you think of our site?

Your site is great! Having an outlet for the up and coming bands like us is seriously very respectable!

15. Something to add?

Be on the lookout for a really sick music video!
