Interviews: Westmoor

In this new occassion we have had the opportunity to interview the Rock/Alternative/Post-Hardcore band Westmoor, from Italy. Check out this band and give them a like on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

Our singer and bass player Marchino lived five years of his life in York, UK. His house was in 1 West Moor Lane and we went there many times to visit him. That place gained a special place in our hearts. We had a casual acoustic gig at a small party he threw one night, and that’s when we realised we had to become a new band, and we had to be called Westmoor.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

I would love to know which genre you guys are thinking about! Ahahaha. We grew up listening to punk-rock, pop-punk and some metal… I think that’s quite evident if you listen to our EP carefully.

However, we just try to play what we feel. Our music represents who we are, and we feel comfortable communicating through it… regardless of which genre people tend to classify it as. And this is all that matters.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

We’ve been close friends since school. Our drummer Mauro is the only new arrival. When we had the urge to find a drummer for the Westmoor project, we heard him playing blast beats at 300 bpm in the practice room next door… that’s how we became friends!

4. Each band member favourite band?

This is a very hard question, there are too many awesome bands we love. We’ll do our best:

Fabio (lead singer) - Stone Sour
Marchino (singer and bassist) - John Mayer
Mark (guitarist) - Pantera
Danny (guitarist) - Twenty One Pilots
Mauro (drummer) - Tool

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Simply people. In general, our lyrics tend to be a reflection upon situations and feelings that people encounter in their daily lives. From life choices to love, from struggles to happiness our approach is never desperate and negative, but rather conscious, rational and in the end… positive. Music is the way with which we feel the strongest emotions, so this is why we write songs and we don’t paint for instance. We simply try to pack our experiences and thoughts into songs and then we share them with people.

6. Where was your last gig?

The last gig we played was in the UK. We were there a week ago for our first ever UK tour. It was the best thing we did as a band and as individuals. We hope to be back there very soon!

7. Where would you like to act?

This one is simple! All around the world!

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

We’d love to open for Biffy Clyro. Such a good live band… so much to learn from them.

9. Whom not?

Ourselves five years ago.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Stage fright can be a pain in the arse. Surely, we have all experienced it in different ways and in different gigs. Some people get nervous for big crowds of strangers, some others with three well known people in a small room. Our experience is that it’s pretty uncontrollable unfortunately, and the only thing that one can do is to trust himself/herself: take a deep breath and show the people what you’ve got to offer!

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Ah man… way too many. As individuals, we’ve been into a lot of different genres (classical music, blues, metal, prog, rock n roll, punk rock, pop, electronic), so this one in impossible to answer.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

To leave the stage, ‘cause they wanted to take a picture with our instruments.. get your own instruments motherf**kers!

13. What do you think of your fans?

Our fans are the reason why we do all of this. Seeing even just one of them headbanging to our music when we play live is what keeps us alive and gives us energy. We love keeping constant contact with them. Social media allows this interaction to be quite easy and fast with everyone. We are so thankful for all the fans we already have and we look forward to make new friends in the future!

14. What do you think of our site?

Not gonna lie, we didn’t know of it before this interview! However, it looks cool and features some very interesting bands so we will keep an eye on it from now on!

15. Something to add?

Actually yeah… we’d love to come and play some gigs in Spain as soon as we can! So hopefully see you soon! Keep an eye on our socials (Instagram and Facebook) and to our website www.westmoormusic.it for the latest releases and gigs, or alternatively our bandsintown! Thank you guys for having us, it’s been a pleasure.
