News: Backwards Dancer to Support Full Say Anything Anniversary Tour!

It has been announced that Backwards Dancer will join Say Anything on tour this fall as the seminal emotive post-punk act celebrates the 10th anniversary of their pivotal  2007 double album In Defense Of The Genre. This tour will mark the first extended run of dates for Backwards Dancer since wrapping their spring tour with Eisley and Civilian in support of their self-titled full length which was released this past March on Rory Records; an imprint of Equal Vision Records run by Max Bemis of Say Anything.

This tour is particularly special for the guys in Backwards Dancer as Max Bemis is not only the man who signed them to Rory Records but an important influence on who they are as songwriters.

Lead singer, Zack Shaw puts it best:

I'm beyond excited for the In Defense tour. In Defense in particular has been like a friend of mine since it was released so it's surreal to be able to accompany Max and the band on tour. Working and building a relationship with Max over the last couple years has been incredible and something I'll always be grateful for. We love him to pieces. When they released that record Max was my age and it has never resonated so much as it does now. Such an important and special record to me and honestly can't wait to sing along every night!

The tour will commence in Phoenix, Arizona with two dates at the Crescent Ballroom on November 25th and 26th, immediately followed by two dates at The Troubadour in West Hollywood. From there, the run will criss-cross the United States through the start of the new year wrapping up on January 31st with two dates in Dallas at Trees.  Dan Andriano, Mike Park, Tim Kasher, Radar State and Aaron Gillespie will all join the bill for different sections of the tour. You can buy your tickets now through the Say Anything website.

Formed in 2014, following Zack Shaw’s departure from The Hotelier (which he co-founded, under the original moniker The Hotel Year), Backwards Dancer has quickly developed their unique style that navigates deep intrapersonal emotion into thoughtfully orchestrated compositions. Their recent self-titled full length explores the concept of dependence, and the human condition in general, in a raw and dynamic way, in the context of relationships, use of substances, money, overall mental health and more.

Backwards Dancer is Zack Shaw and Andy Underwood.
