Interviews: Call To Arms

In this new occasion we have had the opportunity to interview the  Metal/Metalcore band Call To Arms, from Ireland. Check out this band and give them a like on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for your band name?

We went through a million and one provisional names that all of us could not agree on so we all had to bring one name to the table and for some reason we put them into a hat and picked out Call To Arms. Our vocalist Dean read through the bible and had written down a bunch of potential names but brought that one forward.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Anybody who is into metal would tell you a story of how they got into the genre, who their first band was and what metal meant to them, we are no different. We have all been listening to metal since we were kids and were just drawn to the aggressive sound that was coming from our headphones.

I (Dean) remember when I first heard Slipknot and they blew my mind, I believe it was Wait & Bleed and I did not know I wanted to be a metal singer then but Corey Taylor has definitely been a massive influence on me so I guess to express an emotion in such a raw and honest form is why we chose metal.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

We were all in bands together before Call To Arms incarnation and have been best friends for what seems way too long haha.

4. Each name your favourite band.

Dean: Killswitch Engage)

Niall: Fit For An Autopsy)

Alex: Trivium)

Daniel: Gojira)

5. Whom or what inspires you to write music?

Well to be honest we are pretty angry people and a lot of our lyrical content is talking about the way people are, how we process emotion and just the general everyday morales of humanity. We have been in what seems like a transitional stage of our lives trying to mature not only as a band but also as people and I think that definitely reflect in the content we have on this album. We have all had our own problems over the past two years and we just decided to put everything we went through into this.

We also get inspired by listening to music but as we all can rarely agree on a band we all mutually love there is always a sense of diversity especially in the opinion of where we should take a song in the writing process but to name a few bands that inspire us well they would be Gojira, Lamb of God & Machine Head.

6. Where was your last gig?

Our last show was with Jinjer alongside Xerosun in a venue called On The Rox in Dublin, Ireland. It was a great show and the venue was essentially filled up before we even start playing so it was a great show for us and a good way to end 2017.

7. Where would you like to act?

We would love to tour everywhere but if we were to pick a place it would probably be a festival like, Bloodstock, Download, Graspop or Wacken.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

It would definitely be Gojira. We had seen them live when we were in the earliest stages of writing our debut album "Fallacy" and they basically changed our perspective on what heavy music should sound like. Both in a recording studio and in a live setting. They have definitely helped us almost channel the kind of aggression we want to come out from our music.

9. Whom Not?

Oasis. No explanation needed. Bad music is a sin.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Every musician who performs live has felt nervous once in their life before they take the stage. If any advice was to be given it would be that if you put in the hours of practice and its what you want to do then when you go up instead of thinking if people are going to like it just release all the anger and pent up emotion you conceal within yourself and pour it into a honest live show. People will recognize that and respect it.

11. What bands inspire you the most?

That list is way too long. As previously stated Gojira but to name others Killswitch Engage, Behemoth, Pantera, Lamb of God, Avatar, Trivium, Fit For An Autopsy, Darkthrone, Twelve Foot Ninja, Mastadon, Devildriver, Linkin Park.

12. Whats the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

A fan once asked me (Dean) to guttural scream at her while I fucked her.

13. What do you think of your fans?

Our fans are our friends. The scene in Ireland is tough to be in because you have to be of some level of talent and dedication to ever gain a fan base but we were fortunate that people attached themselves to us pretty quickly and because Ireland is such a small country we get to know everyone and that makes it more personal for us. Its always great the way bands support each other here too! Check out our boys in This Place Hell & Jenova.

14. What do you think of our site?

We are always delighted to chat to a website such as this because you support all kinds of up and coming bands and give them some kind of a helping hand with reaching more people.
