Interviews: Perimeter

In this new occasion we have had the opportunity to interview the  Alternative Metalcore band Perimeter, from USA. Check out this band and give them a like on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

Naming our band “Perimeter” was a long process! We originally played under the name “The Bottom Line” for several years until we discovered that this name was taken by a touring band in Europe, so we had to rename ourselves in 2016. We agreed that our main mission as a band was to “expand the boundaries of metal music” by incorporating as many different influences, subgenres, and techniques as we possibly could. This would allow us to diversify our writing style and hopefully create music that is unique and new for the industry. After much debate, we decided on the name “Perimeter,” which we believe fully encompasses our goal of lifting these borders and expanding the outreach of our genre!

2.Why did you want to play this genre?
The members of our band all have slightly different tastes in music, and we like to diversify and listen to various styles and genres. However, the common theme for us has always been metal. Since we try to incorporate many influences, we believe that our style is a combination of alternative metal and metalcore, which we refer to as “Alternative Metalcore.” Marc’s vocal style can be categorized as alternative and pop punk, while our guitar players favor progressive metal and djent, and our bassist and drummer range anywhere from heavy metal to jazz swing-influenced hard rock rhythms. Our individual experiences and influences have blended together pretty nicely, and we’re pumped to release our new EP “What Lies Ahead” and see what the fans think of our style!

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Our three founding members, Shane (lead guitar), Devin (bass), and Frank (drums), all met in middle school and started jamming/writing music together in 2010. After a couple years of turnover at lead singer, we met Marc when he responded to a Facebook post we made regarding lead singer auditions for our band in 2014. He went through the audition process, and eventually joined our band that July. In 2016, we began looking for a permanent rhythm guitarist because we started to become more influenced by the progressive and metalcore sub-genres. Justin was a friend of Shane’s in high school, and the two of them had played guitar together in the past. We brought Justin in for an audition and were immediately impressed, so of course we added him to our band as well!

4. Each band member favourite band?

It’s tough for us to narrow down our favorite all-time bands since we try our best to listen to and follow as many bands as possible, especially across the metal genre. If we each individually selected our favorite band, they would be:

Marc Cheshire (lead vocals) - Of Mice & Men
Shane Harris (lead guitar) - Three Days Grace
Justin Yu (rhythm guitar) - Born of Osiris
Devin Cornacchio (bass) - The Amity Affliction
Frank Coppola (drums) - Disturbed

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Inspiration for all of our songs births from the inner struggles that we as a band undergo throughout our lives. Music to us is truly the purest form of the expression of emotions. A song, in our minds, is like a journey along a road of endless explorations. We hope that every time one of our songs is played, the overwhelming complexity and depth of our music will be heard in a different way and provide a new experience for the listener. The core of our writing inspiration consists of our love for music and our love for each other as a band. Without both, there is no Perimeter.

6. Where was your last gig?

Our most recent gig was at 89 North in Patchogue. This show was a great experience for us because we got to perform a few of the songs off of our new EP “What Lies Ahead,” which will be released this spring! From this new album, we included the songs “Sleepwalker” and “Visions” in our setlist, and it was very exciting for us to perform these new tracks for our fans. We also were able to play alongside some of the local bands like My Sword And Shield, Divide By Zero, and Criminal Syndicate, who helped make this show a very exciting night for everyone in the crowd.

7. Where would you like to act?

There are a lot of cities and venues around the world that are on our bucket list, so that makes it difficult for us to narrow it down. Being from Long Island, playing at Madison Square Garden in New York City has always been a lifelong dream for all of us. We’re also big fans of the Warped Tour summer festival, so having the opportunity to perform alongside so many talented artists and bands on that tour would be an incredible experience. Then of course there’s Rock am Ring in Germany; that festival is insane!

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

It is hard to say just one or even 10 artists simply because every opportunity to us is equally as exciting. Music to us is all about collaboration and meeting new people to share our experiences and passion with. It would be cool to have a few locals feature on a song with us. However, if we had to name a few, Of Mice & Men, Asking Alexandria, and August Burns Red, would be some of our top picks.

9. Whom not?

We would never turn down an opportunity to play with another band or feature with other artists. We accept everyone equally with an open mind, and we look forward to the results that will come from doing so.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

We all have suffered from stage fright because we want to put on the best possible show. When getting on stage, we always try to remember that everything has been rehearsed countless times. The key is to treat every show like we’re at another practice; preparation and band chemistry are imperative to putting on a great show for the fans!

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

We have sought inspiration and influence from many bands across the industry that have affected us throughout our careers so far. For starters, our band was founded because of our mutual love for Avenged Sevenfold. Their style really inspired us during the writing process when we were a young metal band. We have since branched out and developed influence and inspiration from other bands in genres like progressive metal, punk rock, alternative, and of course, metalcore. Some of our biggest inspirations as songwriters include Of Mice & Men, Periphery, Born of Osiris, Issues, and Bullet For My Valentine, to name a few.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

There's nothing that is too weird for us!

13. What do you think of your fans?

God bless you all for being so supportive of us. Without you, we would not have come this far. You are the key piece to the puzzle that makes Perimeter run full circle.

14. What do you think of our site?

Your website is awesome! We love metalcore and all of the genres you guys promote and support. Providing metal fans with a solid platform that compiles content on up-and-coming musicians is truly a beautiful thing.  This is a great concept and we are happy to be a part of it!
