Interviews: Sound Drown

In this new occasion we have had the opportunity to interview the  Pop Punk/Alternative Rock band Sound Drown, from Canada. Check out this band and give them a like on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? Did you plan it or did it just come out like that?

We wanted to have a name that would summarize who we were if we were on a sheet of paper. In other words, we needed it to be catchy, memorable, and demonstrate diversity. Sound Drown did that for us, and we have no clue why we haven't found another band with that name.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

We don't really consider ourselves to be just one genre, but playing pop-punk and the surrounding genres allows us to be raw in our emotions and challenge ourselves by writing material that isn't all similar to the stuff you hear already.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Justin and Drew have been lifelong friends - they met in early Elementary School. They formed a small garage band with Nick in 2014, but went their separate ways for work and school. In late 2015, Brandon brought Drew into Sound Drown, who then brought Nick, and in late 2016 brought Justin as well.

4. What is each band member's favourite band?

JUSTIN: Papa Roach

DREW: Linkin Park

BRANDON: Blink-182

NICK: Billy Talent

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Since the only songs people have heard so far have all been written by Brandon, here's his answer:

"I've always wanted to play music like Tom DeLonge. I'm also a huge Iron Maiden, Blink-182 and Sum 41 fan. I was also influenced by bands like The Offspring, Jimmy Eat World, and Slayer when writing, but mostly Blink-182."

6. Where was your last gig?

We hosted a benefit titled the "Suicide Awareness Show" on Dec. 1st, 2017, to raise money for a local Saint John charity.

7. Where would you like to play?

Montebello Rockfest, Canadian Music Week, Lollapalooza, Rock Am Ring, Warped Tour (if it ever returns), Rock In Rio. Basically any festivals we could eventually get into.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

We don't think we're in a position to turn down featuring with specific artists, and we're all open to different features anyway, so there aren't any artists that we'd prefer over others.

9. Whom not?

Anybody who doesn't seem like a decent human being.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

We've all suffered from it at one point, every musician does. It's really just a matter of knowing your parts, practicing them and having faith in the musicians you're playing with. Other than that, just be yourself and be lively & energetic. Crowds feed off your energy and it's easier for them to have a good time if you're having a good time.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

As far as Dino Droppings goes, it's heavily inspired by classic pop-punk bands like Blink-182, Sum 41, Green Day, and Good Charlotte. But we each have our own personal inspirations that will definitely show in future records!

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Well, anything from "Sign my stomach" to "Sound Drown thongs". Use your imagination for everything else in-between.

13. What do you think of your fans?

We love our fans. They always show so much love for us and we could never thank them enough for all of their support. We appreciate each and every one of them, because without them, we wouldn't be able to do any of this.

14. What do you think of our site?

It's a very in-depth look into what music makes each genre tick, which is super cool and we're so excited to be featured on it!
