Interviews: Anthems

In this new occasion we have had the opportunity to interview the  Metalcore  band Anthems from Czech Republic. Check out this band and give them a like on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

We had several ideas, but everything sounded a bit like a cliché, or should I say like something that isn‘t so special not only in general, but most importantly for us. When someone said „Anthems“ (and I can’t really recall who), it was quite different. We felt that it really fits the spirit of our band and it also cooperates with our way of making lyrics, for every one of them is kind of an anthem itself. We just instantly knew that thi s was it.

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

It was quite simple. Every member of the band has been performing heavy music before Anthems and for every one of us, it’s the kind of music that we love and feel passionate about. Listening to this genre, and mainly performing it live, is a source of endless emotions for us and it really makes us feel alive. On the other hand the truth is that we love also a lot of different genres and just music in general. I think that every piece of music becomes a real magic, if you put something directly from you into it...

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Yes, we did. Most of us has been playing in the same bands in the past, so when we were forming Anthems, we really knew with whom are we working and why.

4. Each band member favourite band?

Textures, August Burns Red, Architects, Heart in Hand, The Cure

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

I guess the answer is life in general. When I’m writing lyrics, I am inspired by my inner experiences mostly, I mean thoughts, emotions, mind sets and patterns, desires, ways of thinking etc. For example, our debut album „Consciousness“ is in general about being aware of your inner life, of your inner self and about the way to achieve „perfection“. Themes of our lyrics are just connected to everyday life and I guess that almost everyone can (on a certain level) relate to them. As i said, each of our songs is a little anthem itself.

6. Where was your last gig?

Our last gig was at the Rock Café Prague. Its a really awesome venue, the atmosphere and the audience is always remarkable. We always enjoy playing there and we definitely recommend visiting this place.

7. Where would you like to act?

I dont think that we have one or two particular places or events at which we aim to perform. We just want to play our music in front of lots of people through the whole world, doesn‘t matter whether it‘s in small venues or at the huge festivals. If I was to choose some events we dream to perform at, I guess it would be Vans Warped Tour or Never Say Die tour. Impericon festivals may be the biggest desire so far.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

There are lots of great bands and musicians throughout the world, we’d like to cooperate with. It‘s really hard to pick some of them, but as a band I guess we’d love to work with bands such as Architects, While She Sleeps, August Burns Red and other (not only) metalcore giants. If u ask me, I can think of milions of people, but first that came across my mind is Robert Smith of The Cure or for example My Chemical Romance.

9. Whom not?

There are no particular artists with whom we wouldn’t cooperate, but we definitely don‘t want to be connected with anyone who supports xenophobic/racist thinking or any other form of dividing people. Everyone is different and that’s great. We would like to bring people together, not divide them and breed hate.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how
to beat that?

Almost every time before the gig we have that feeling, that is a half of excitement and a half of fright. But I guess it’s a good thing. Of course, there are types of stage fright which have massive impact on the performace, but thankfully we never suffered from that, so we just enjoy that exciting feeling which often encourage us for even better results. When you are having a strong stage fright, the half of a succes is just being prepared. When you know that you know your shit, it’s a big relief itself. Then just go and do it and learn from mistakes!

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Well definitely those mentioned above (Textures, Architects,...). We all listen to a lots of music and lots of genres, therefore we are daily inspired by a huge range of great bands.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Well it’s quite a shame but at the moment I can’t recall anything really interesting. Sometimes people ask us, why don’t we have lyrics in Czech (our native language) instead of English... Well that’s pretty easy: We expresses ourselves the way we feel, period. And what’s more, we surely don’t want to perform only in Czech Republic for the rest of our lives.

13. What do you think of your fans?

Oh, we definitely love them, that’s for sure :D Thank y’all for the support and love! You loving our music is the best thing ever for us! And if I can send a word to you: stop waiting, searching and overthinking – life is now!

14. What do you think of our site?

It’s awesome that there are websites and media that really support bands and offer them space to promote their music easily. We are very thankful for that, also have to say that your compilations are really great idea, and we can’t wait to hear our music amongst those awesome bands! Thank you for those opportunities!
