Interviews: As We Once Were

In this new occasion we have had the opportunity to interview the  Pop Punk  band As We Once Were from USA. Check out this band and give them a like on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

Our original lineup consisted of only three members and was named At War on Wednesday. That band name was a play on a lyrical passage from Coheed and Cambria’s song “Everything Evil.” But when we started taking the band more seriously we knew we wanted to change the name and get a new member. When we found our current guitar player Max, we changed our name to As We Once Were, because everyone had already knows us as AWOW from our last band, so we just came up with a new name with the same acronym.

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

When we sit down to write, we always try to create music that is a combination of all of our influences. We ultimately want to write music that we would enjoy listening to and to give the best representation of ourselves that we possibly can.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Yes! I’ve lived three doors down from our drummer Shannon for almost my whole life, and I knew our bass player Bryan from high school. We all met Max through playing shows in the scene, and when things weren’t working out with his old band, he joined our lineup because we knew from experience how well we get along with him.

4. Each band member favourite band?

Shannon’s favorite band is Something Corporate, Bryan’s favorite band is My Chemical Romance, Max’s favorite band is HIM, and my favorite band is Coheed and Cambria.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Other than our favorite bands, the things that we collectively deal with in life inspire our lyrics and our sound. Our last EP Day In | Day Out was written about the things that the mind goes through on a day to day basis when dealing with a mundane way of life, like working a boring job week after week.

6. Where was your last gig?

Our last show (and our next show) was at Evolution Music in Downer’s Grove, Illinois.

7. Where would you like to act?

We have toured to the East Coast and Midwest a couple of times, so it would be cool to get the opportunity to start playing shows out West.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Anyone who would like to feature with us. We’re not picky.

9. Whom not?

Anyone who doesn’t have respect for others. Plain and simple.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Oh, absolutely! Our first show ever was opening up for the Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, and we were all petrified to play that show. The advice we can offer is to practice as much as you possibly can before a show so that you know that you are well-prepared. There is nothing scarier than showing up to a gig and knowing in the back of your mind that you aren’t brushed up on your parts. We still somewhat get stage fright, but once we get through the first song, that fear starts going away because we know how much time we’ve put into learning the songs.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Some of our collective favorite bands are Taking Back Sunday, New Found Glory, Jimmy Eat World, Real Friends, and Knuckle Puck.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

We haven’t exactly been asked for anything weird from our fans. We did get asked to sign a CD once, but it was only weird because none of us were expecting it.

13. What do you think of your fans?

We absolutely can’t thank everyone who has ever supported us as a band enough. They have made pursuing music worth it, even in the darkest of times. Thank you all so much.

14. What do you think of our site?

It’s great! We love how often you feature new and upcoming artists. As a relatively new band, we know how hard it is to get your name and music out there, but having sites like yours definitely helps! We really appreciate you reaching out to us!
