Interviews: The Cartographer

In this new occassion we have had the opportunity to interview the Progressive Metal/Djent band The Cartographer, from UK. Check out this band and give them a like on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

We were stuck on band name for a while, until jay and a past member were
funnily enough playing skyrim, and at the bottom of the map you get with the
game says “signed, The Cartographer” as soon as we saw that it stuck! so it
was all down to playing one of our favourite games.

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

We originally didnʼt have this genre in mind, we was aiming for a lighter feel for the band, but as members changed and we grew up we started working with the more aggressive feel you hear from us now, and it just fit. Especially now with us all having a big love for that style of music.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

As the band sits now we didnʼt really know each other before each member joined. We all really came from different friend groups to form what we have now and we all just clicked and it felt perfect!

4. Each band member favourite band?

We all have the same love for the same kinds of music but we all also have very big love for other styles of music too! but out favourite bands are as follows:

Jay: Like Moths To Flames
Josh: The Contortionist
Dan: In Flames
Tom: Heart Of A Coward

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Past songs, we havenʼt really had much inspiration for songs, we just wrote what we felt like writing at the time, But with the new album (which we have a title for but not releasing yet) concentrates on many varied human emotions, Like our latest single for instance, “HYDE” is based upon mental illness specifically schizophrenia and how it can take hold of a persons life. So our inspirations for writing our new music is human emotion and to try and have music that other people can relate too.

6. Where was your last gig?

Our last show was at The Maze in nottingham on the 23rd april, with 60+ people in the tiny room with our good friends in Miscreant, it was an unbelievable show!

7. Where would you like to act?

We all have our different goals in the band, but our main goals is a stage at
download festival and UK Tech Metal Festival in newark.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Our dream would be to share the stage with bands that we look up to, With 2
of them being Born Of Osiris and After The Burial.

9. Whom not?

There isnʼt really many bands we wouldnʼt want to share a stage with....But you wouldnʼt really see us opening up for Ed Sheeran or Steve Aoki, the genre
would just be slightly off! (Although its no secret that Steve Aoki loves his hard hitting punk music)

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

This has always been a hard question, because its never really been a massive problem for us. We still get super nervous about some shows we have played in the past, but for someone just starting out and who is looking for a few pointers.....just go up there and give it the best you have, 9/10 times people will see your passion for making music and respect that, everyone messes up on stage too, so NEVER be at all hard on yourself for stuff like that, its all just a big learning curve!

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

As mentioned before the bands we look up too are band like Born Of Osiris,
After The Burial, Heart Of A Coward and the almighty Meshuggah

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

We havenʼt really come across many weird things if im entirely honest, but the craziest thing for us is when a fan asks us to sign a CD or a shirt.....its just feels amazing that people dig our music enough for them to want us to sign something!

13. What do you think of your fans?

Absolute nutters, and we love them too bits, the last tour we did a few days ago, we have to pretty wild nights....so unexpected but loved every second of it! so a massive thank you to those who dig our music and continue to support us, it means a lot!

14. What do you think of our site?

We think its amazing, the fact you guys give smaller bands like ourselves time to promote our music and get it out there is just incredible! its sites and companies like you that are the real stars in the music industry, and ill speak for many bands out there, we canʼt thank you enough for what you do and give us time out of your day to speak with us, so thank you!

15. Something to add?

If you dig our music then get yourselves on facebook and checkout our best friends in miscreant! Also keep an eye out on our page for some very important and big announcements coming very soon, including new singles and our album reveal!
