Interviews: Fyke

In this new occasion we have had the opportunity to interview the Rock  band Fyke from USA. Check out this band and give them a like on their FACEBOOK PAGE

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name? Was it planned or did it just come out like that?

Enik:  A Fyke is a large net used to capture large masses of fish. We named the band Fyke because we wanted to capture people with our music. There is a deeper story about how we actually chose that name but the story behind that would the length of a small essay haha.

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

Enik: As a producer, I write everything from k-pop, edm to metal but there has always been something that allows me to express myself more completely when it comes to rock. It’s as if the spectrum of emotion has a wider playing field. There is a sort of desperation, anxiety, and anger that I couldn’t quite convey through other styles of music. On the other hand, my  2nd runner up would be Electronic so it only made sense for us to mix both of the genre’s into our music.

Steven:  When we started FYKE, we didn’t have a definite genre in mind.  It kinda just came together and formed naturally.

Gerard:  Playing this genre of music has always been my dream.  I moved on to EDM because sustaining a band’s consistency and dedication was very hard until FYKE.

Mikee: I’m actually a fan of all sorts of music genre’s. So the fact that our songs have a mix of different genre’s was easy for me to be a part of.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Steven: I met Enik 15 years ago from a Craigslist ad he posted about looking for a guitarist for his old band.  I met Justin through different shows our previous bands played over 10 years ago.  Mikee said the rest :)

Gerard: I only knew Mikee before the band was formed.

Mikee: Steven and I used to play shows together in our old bands. A couple years ago we ended up getting some pizza after one of those shows and he showed me one of Fyke’s demos. I immediately fell in love with the band and everything they stood for. He took me to one their recording sessions where I met Enik and the rest is history. I met Gerard on Santa Monica Pier. He was playing drums on some pots and pans and thought he was amazing! Just kidding! I’ve known Gerard for a long time. We actually go to the same church currently.

4. Who is each band members favourite band?

Enik: Underoath, Linkin Park, Bring Me The Horizon, Hillsong Worship, Bethel Music, & i’m a sucker for Beiber and Taylor Swift.

Mikee Fabella: It's definitely a tie between Underoath and Linkin Park! But   Underoath definitely changed the game for me.

Gerard: I don’t have a favorite, but some of my tops are Bring Me The Horizon, Hillsong Worship, Memphis May Fire, and The Chainsmokers.

Steven: John Mayer, The 1975, Linkin Park, BMTH.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Steven: Making a difference and positive impact, life experiences, and being able to get what I need to out of me without using words.

Mikee Fabella: I think for me, it’s the fans. You never know how much songs can impact a person’s life. And being in this band the past year, I’ve been so humbled to see and hear people say that our songs have touched them in a deeper sense than just that “feel good” type of way. But more in a “wow, you’ve changed my perspective on a certain situation that thought I would never get through, but because of the words in this song,I now know there is hope” type of way.

6. Where was your last gig?

Mikee: Our last show was in LA with our good friends Assuming We Survive. It was awesome!

7. Where would you like to perform?

Gerard: New York Time Square.  I always hear of artists talking about how the turning biggest point in their careers were when they played there.

Steven: Madison Square Garden, Royal Albert Hall in UK, Hollywood Bowl, anywhere overseas.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Mikee: Doing a collab with Linkin Park would be a dream come true! R.I.P Chester.

Enik: That list is too long.

9. Whom not?

Mikee: Maybe Rebecca Black? Haha

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright?   Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Enik: In general, besides my very first few shows, I don’t really get stage fright. I DO, however, suffer from day to day anxiety, which can come off as stage fright. The way I get over that is to force myself, thoughts, & body, to slow down. Breathing slower can do wonders.

Gerard: I definitely have and still do, but it is much less than before.  I would say that the more you practice and practice, it will come as muscle memory and you wouldn’t be worried about messing.

Mikee: Probably before every show during those 10 seconds before we walk on stage. But as soon as I see everyone’s big smiling faces it all goes away. My advice would be to never forget why you’re up on that stage in the first place. If music is your passion, don’t take that opportunity for granted because it’s such a beautiful thing for us musicians to do what we do and it’s amazing that during those 40 minutes or however long you get play, people can forget about everything they're going through, they can forget about those problems that are weighing them down and get to be happy. So don’t let those nerves kill you!

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Steven: John Mayer, The 1975, Underoath, Acceptance, The Used, Paramore, Hillsong United.   There’s way too many to list

Gerard: Memphis May Fire because of their lyrics especially.

Mikee: Not to sound cliche, but my dudes in Fyke! When Enik first explained to me the vision and mission of this band, I knew right away this was something that I was called to do. Being in a band with the four most passionate dudes whos ultimate goal is to help spread God’s love around the world is something that inspires me everyday!

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Mikee: It wasn’t weird, but this caught me off guard. A fan asked me if I could take a picture with her..while she was holding me on her back! Let me remind you, I’m 5’11 180 lbs. This girl was probably only 5ft tall! I underestimated her strength and power as she proved me wrong and carried Gerard like a champ! She is awesome.

13. What do you think of your fans?

Steven: Forever grateful for believing in us

Mikee Fabella: Our fans are amazing! There are no words to describe them but I’ll try...They are the most loyal, loving, supportive group of people. The fact that they’ve been so supportive since day one still blows my mind.

14. What do you think of our site Breathing the Core?

Steven:  Love it!
