Interviews: Annihilist

In this new occassion we have had the opportunity to interview the  Metal band Annihilist, from Canada. Check out this band and give them a like on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that? 

We wanted a name that would suit the way we sound. (Pronounced An-nigh-hill-ist)

2.Why did you want to play this genre? 

To us, metal is like home. You always venture out, but you always come back. Metal is where the heart is. 

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed? 

A few of us knew each other from high school, the rest of us met each other through the local music scene.

4. Each band member favourite band? 

We've got a wide variety of influences, all from different corners of the heavy music world - so to choose favorites would be misleading. Some major influences include, Machine head, Slipknot, Opeth, Animals as leaders, Insomnium and many more. 

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs? 

Music has been an enormous part of all our lives, one of the major drives for us is to inspire people in the same way it inspired us growing up. The notion of playing a song live to an audience is also what drives our enthusiasm for writing music.

6. Where was your last gig?

We played last night in Wellington, New Zealand. We're currently here on tour heading up to Auckland for our next show! 

7. Where would you like to act? 

Anywhere new is always exciting and fun. Anywhere the music is appreciated makes it a memorable experience. We have so far not been to Europe. We would love to perform at some of the big Summer metal festivals they have over there! 

8. Whom would you like to feature with? 

We'd be excited to work with some of our favorite producers and take our music to its full potential. 

9. Whom not? 

I think we're pretty open to working with just about anyone. You never know what kind of exciting collaboration you might come up with working with someone you may never have expected too! 

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright?Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

We don't really get stage fright anymore as we've all been doing this for years now, both in and out of Annihilist. But there were certainly a few instances at the beginning where we felt a bit out of our depth.  

Everyone has to go through a few live performances of feeling nervous on stage, it's only natural that you do. If it's something your passionate about just keep playing, keep performing and eventually you'll begin to feel a bit more within your element. 

11. What bands have inspired you the most? 

We have been inspired by many bands, and collectively as a group it is difficult to pinpoint any one band. Slipknot, DevilDriver and Machine Head have certainly inspired us as a group due to their rigorous touring schedule, work ethic and consistent output of new music. 

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for? 

A threesome.

13. What do you think of your fans? 

Many of our fans we have met in person at our live shows. We are friends with a lot of them and we look forward to revisiting cities to meet them and hang out with them again! 

Our fans are our lifeblood and we wouldn't exist without them!

14. What do you think of our site?

It's great! Our guitarist Miki Simankevicius designs websites himself in addition to photography and filmography! He is pleased with the layout.
