Interviews: The Antarctica Project

In this new occassion we have had the opportunity to interview the Progressive Metalcore/Djent band The Antarctica Project, from Chile. Check out this band and give them a like on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

"The Antarctica Project" Comes from the former name "Antarctica", it's the south of our country. This concept works with our music, it delivers us an identity in which we feel comfortable and proud. Besides, isn't magnificent that amount of ice gathered in just one place? along the mysticism and the rumors that surround it? However, it's in a constant decadence due to our existence. "Antarctica" takes its definitive form as "Project" when got to complete the band members and that way we could find a reborn where we could achieve our dreams and hopes, this is the adventure we call "The Antarctica Project".

2. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Yes. José, Alberto and Felipe Cuevas (Now on Destinos, Ex-guitarist and composer, now our producer) they know each other from a couple of years ago, also because of the music, we had some parties at Alberto's house, where we also had some rehearsals. Jaime García, Felipe Soto and Andrés Olivares are from the same Institute where Alberto studied. There wasn't an established friendship at the beginning, until we had to look for new members since we had troubles with some of the members that where in the band in order to continue with this project. After that, Jaime, Felipe and Andrés were included in the band, we have a great friendship beyond this project, and this lead to have a very solid and stable formation to continue with this dream.

3. Why did you want to play this genre?

It's probably because of the appearance of Northlane and Erra. A year that marked us as a band (We still didn't had the whole formation but we were already connected). Their instrumentals, lyrics, breakdowns, atmospheres, blast beats, fresh tunings and a modern sound. Alberto and José one day playing the "Air guitar" from the vinyl "Discoveries" said: "We need to have a band like that one, this sounds so good!" it was instant love the first time we listened to that album.

4. Each band member favourite band?

Andrés Olivares (Andrums) (Drummer) - Architects
Felipe Soto (McEnsy) (Guitarist) - Periphery
Jaime García (Charlie) (Bassist) - Between The Buried And Me
Alberto Barbano (Tito) (Guitarist) - Northlane
José Ramírez (Nowe) (Vocalist) - Northlane

5. Where was your last gig?

Our last show was the release of our album "Transmute", we had the chance to play along some great bands: Fragments, Garden of Stained Graves and Starting the Collapse. It was an event completely self-managed, the coordination, art, diffusion, backline, food selling, the set up... it was an exhausting day, memorable, or I could even say "Immortal". That day we felt on our own the love of the crowd and we knew that this was the path that we had to follow.

6. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

What inspires us are our own expectations, we love our work, we like to push ourselves at the rehearsals and we like to share a good vibe, to be in a band is amazing but at the same time a tremendous responsibility. We write songs for us, for you, for the genre (Post Metalcore - Progressive Metalcore). The content of our lyrics lies in the questioning of the human nature, in its infinite rediscovery, in the chances, and the joys of life that come with or without logic at all. Life itself and the fantasy of different points of view in our songs.

7. Where would you like to act?

In our country we would like to play in stages like Teatro Caupolicán and Teatro Cariola. If it was somewhere else we would like to play first in our neighbor countries and Latin American countries, after that we would play in USA, Europe, Asia, and of course the rest of the world.

8. Whom would you like to act?

With Sam Carter from Architects, it would be an amazing experience because he has a great voice and such an energy when playing live.
