Interviews: Cortex Complex

In this new occassion we have had the opportunity to interview the Progressive Rock/Progressive Metal band Cortex Complex from UK. Check out the interview and this band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

Cortex Complex actually started as a university project when I was studying music along with Andreas, the band drummer, in 2015. We were really pressed with the deadline and had no clue what to name the band, so I asked an author friend of mine and came up with it instantly! I loved it, and here we are!

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

I didn't really think about genre. Both me and Andreas were experienced performers and composers playing for many bands of various styles. When we were writing the first album we kind of just wrote music with no stylistic expectations.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Me and Andreas have known each other ever since we were children, we even started learning music together when we were sixteen years old! Mike and Valentina that later joined in as session vocalists, were friends that I made as a teenager playing in the Cypriot music scene, before we all relocated in the U.K.

4. Each band member favourite band?
I can't really speak for everyone on this. Ever since our second album, Cortex Complex is a one man project, featuring session musicians so I don't have everyone here with me! But my favorite band is definitely either Opeth or Hypocrisy (a bit far from the Cortex Complex style, I know!)

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Real life and the current state of the world. I like to use the Sci-Fi story of Cortex Complex to voice my concerns about the world right now in an entertaining way!

6. Where was your last gig?

As we currently are a one man project featuring session musicians, we are still just a studio band.

7. Where would you like to perform?

Even though it's not in the plans right now, I always wanted a gig at Royal Albert Hall!

8. Whom would you like to perform with?

Steve Vai, or Dream Theater probably!

9. Whom not?

Well, Justin Bieber is right at the bottom of that list, I guess!

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

I've had my stage fright moments. It's always good to remember that noone is there to judge you and that everyone, musicians and audience, is there to have a good time.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Probably Steve Vai, Dream Theater and Opeth with some Steven Wilson influence on the vocal lines!

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

We are not at the stage of weird requests just yet unfortunately!

13. What do you think of your fans?

Bloody love every single one of them.

14. What do you think of our site?

It's pretty great! I am psyched to be giving you an interview!

15. Something to add?
