Interviews: DROWNED

In this new occassion we have had the opportunity to interview the Death Metal/Trash Metal band DROWNED from Brazil. Check out the interview and this band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
Drowned was a song from “left had path”, Entombed. It was a influence for us in the beginning and sounded good for us, so we’ve decided to name the band this way.
2.Why did you want to play this genre?
Actually, in the end of 90’s, we wanted to do something different in death/thrash metal genre. I personally liked a lot of blending stuff, I had a background in heavy and hard rock music, so we gathered and decided to do music with focus on Metal, with elements of Thrash, Heavy and death metal. It was like a mid-term of all we had in our minds and so we started to write songs and experiment, trying to find our personality.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Yes, not all members, but I’ve played with Rodrigo Nunes and made some jams with Fernando Lima, for example.
4. Each band member favourite band?
Hard question. I think we have no “that one” favorite band, I can name some that probably will play in our Stereos and cell phones over the years: Iron Maiden, Metallica, Slayer, Entombed, Kiss, Bolt Thrower, Amon Amarth and so on.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
In terms of instrumental parts, probably a new gear, a new band, a concert that we’ve made and was ok, or simply an accident hahaha About lyrics, we’ve been for a long time writing about world crises, violence in Brazil, politics disaster (mainly here). I don’t know the future, maybe it’ll change…
6. Where was your last gig?
We stopped touring last December, to concentrate in our new album, due to release on June, 15, 2018. So, we have some dates being booked right now, this next tour will be fun.
7. Where would you like to act?
Everywhere with good sound guy, please! Hahahaha And, I want to play again overseas, probably it’ll occur in 2019.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
I don’t know the people, so this answer is just like a perspective. I think it would be great a tour with Arch Enemy, Sepultura or a band of this new generation, like Periphery or Between The Buried and Me.
9. Whom not?
We had some troubles with Testament in Brazil, but I think it was a misunderstanding with the stuff of the band. Since the band was ok, for us, no problem. Assholes, in other hand, are not welcomed.
10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
The more you practice, the more will be good your results on stage. So, if I had to pick one good tip, it would be play a lot, rehearse with and without the full band (baking tracks in you bedroom, to get tight). Of course, being on stage always need some lock, it’s part of the game, but you can minimize the errors and keep learning to make better concerts once and again.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
I think there are at least 2 levels here. First, the background. All the stuff I’ve heard my entire life and made me to choice playing music and being in this. In this parameter, I think Metallica, Slayer and Iron Maiden are the power-trio, despite the amount of good things done in the past 30 years in Metal genre. Nowadays, I’m listen a lot of bands that are trying (at least for me…) to bring fresh air to Metal scene, like Animals as Leaders, Scale the Summit, Periphery, Black Dahlia Murder, and others. Metal core has good bands too, like KSE, I like Lamb of God, Mastodon, there’s a lot of good bands out there that, in many cases, can make you feel different, think different and so, write different.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Autographing the back of a sweaty guy was strange. I just don’t remember the town right now...
13. What do you think of your fans?
I think they are very shy, because they don’t need to be afraid of buying a lot of our stuff, buying tickets to our concerts and put us rich!! (laughs)
14. What do you think of our site?
It’s absolutely awesome! In this case, it’s important to say that your work is very important in all terms for the bands involved. You know, I started in the time of demo-tapes, magazines very underground and to divulging a band was an adventure. Nothing to help us and nothing like this. So, congratulations for great work and support, not just for Drowned, but all bands around, I speak in name of all of them.
15. Something add?

Thanks a lot for the interview and time. I hope to see all of your readers on tour, celebrating the life and enjoying the “7th” on tour. Cheers!
