Interviews: Perpetual Night

In this new occassion we have had the opportunity to interview the Melodic Death Metal/Death Metal band Perpetual Night from Spain. Check out the interview and this band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

We wanted a name that represented the soul of the band in some way. The night is the time during which we usually write our songs and play them, so we thought that a perpetual night would be the best context for inspiration.

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

We've musically grown much thanks to the metal coming from Scandinavia (Finland and Sweden mainly). Melodic death metal mixed with black, doom, etc., is what comes up when we play the guitar, we cannot help it.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Raúl (lead guitar) and I knew each other some years before the band. We met the first time during a trip to London and we got along very well. Then we decided, that any time we could, we would form a band to play the music we both liked, as at that time the two of us had different bands. Carlos (Bass) shared band with Raúl, so as soon as he could, he joined the band, so everything was "easy".

4. Each band member favourite band?

César: Wolfheart
Raúl: Dissection
Carlos: Los Suaves (Spanish classic rock band)

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Life bullshit basically. Our songs usually enclose many personal issues covered
with metaphors according to the genre. As for riffs, the dynamic is more or less the same. There are some days in which you are in the mood to compose and you get something brutal, but there are some other days in which you are fucked up and you get something heartbreaking.

6. Where was your last gig?

Our last gig was in Málaga together with Vikingore and Inorganic. It was an amazing night during which we had some technical problems. The crowd in Málaga was exceptional and we got to make some friends.

7. Where would you like to act?

Everywhere around the world. The place we would like the most is Scandinavia, as it's the place to which our genre belong.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Basically, our favourite bands: Insomnium, Wolfheart, Alcest, Katatonia, Dark
Tranquility, At The Gates, Mors Subita, Omnium Gatherum, Dark Lunacy and a
long etc.

9. Whom not?

There aren't band with which we wouldn't like to play. We're cheerful and kind
people!

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Indeed, we haven't. You always are a little bit nervious, but always within the usual.

The truth is that with our live session drummer, Mateo, we usually do the so called "to go into the mantra", which simply is to clown around as much as possible in the backstage before going to the stage. We scream, we rap, we dance... we laugh a lot and that way we play in a much more relaxed mood.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Every Scandinavic melodeath band on the top: Wolfheart, Before the Dawn, Insomnium, Omnium Gatherum, Dark Tranquility and doomer bands such as Swallow The Sun or Katatonia.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Recently we've been asked to play a private concert for a fan's mum's birthday party! For us it's not so common, as you may imagine, but we really love it.

13. What do you think of your fans?

At the moment, our fans are great. We get along very well, and their feedback is great. We love them!

14. What do you think of our site?

We think it's great. To support emerging bands is amazing. You worth the best for the work you do.

15. Something add?

Thanks a lot for this chat with us. To the readers, don't lose to chance to listen to our new album Anâtman, available in Spotify, YouTube, ITunes and Deezer. You can follow us in Facebook and Instagram. Best from Perpetual Night!
