Interviews: Renegades

In this new occassion we have had the opportunity to interview the Metalcore/Post-Hardcore band Renegades, from USA. Check out this band and give them a like on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name?

We got the idea for the band name after coming up with many others that just didn't feel right. Chase's wife was actually the one who came up with the name.

Seth: Randomly thinking of names until Renegades came up and we all loved it.

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

We want to play this genre because we feel we can express ourselves best. We want to deliver message with everything we do.

Seth: I feel like I’m best at writing this genre so that definitely helps in wanting to play it.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Chase: Yes and no but pretty much no. Seth and Myles were in a pop punk band Get Busy Living for.about 6 months up until we recorded this EP then we found Josh. Prior to 2018 we really didn't know of eachother.

Myles: I knew Seth and Chase back when the band was Get Busy Living, I’m glad they decided to keep me around for the rebrand hahaha

Seth: I met all the band members through a previous band member and I’m glad that it all worked out the way that it did.

4. Each band members favourite band?

Chase: I honestly don't have 1 favorite band.  Josh- The Contortionist  Seth- at bottom.

Myles: My favorite band is a toss up between The 1975 and Polaris. Quite a broad spectrum I know, but both bands have incredible musical components that have really influenced my drumming recently.

Seth: Knuckle Puck by far. They haven’t put out any bad music and I can always trust them to put on a killer show.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Music that makes the hair stand up on your body inspires us. Musicians who want to put out quality music from front to back and definitely heavy catchy music period.

Seth: My parents are probably my biggest inspiration as incredible musicians. My dad especially. As a perfectionist, he definitely pushed me to not settle for mediocrity.

6. Where was your last gig?

Opening for Red Jumpsuit Apparatus and RIVALS which we know doesn't sound like it fits.

Seth: My last show with this band was our first show ever as Renegades.

7. Where would you like to tour?

The world!

Seth: I think that touring Europe would be amazing!

8. Whom would you like to tour with?

Probably Wage War

Seth: Definitely Wage War.

9. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Yes! Josh and Chase used to be terrified of being on stage and would keep their eyes closed or back turned to the crowd. Over time, that goes away but the thing I think new musicians can focus on to help combat stage fright would be to focus on the music. Focus on why you are on that stage and really connect with your music. If you feel it, the crowd will as well. Showmanship and putting on a show comes with experience, but connecting with your music has to come first.

Myles: I used to, a few years ago. I’d be terrified to make a mistake. Until I finally realized that I’m going to make mistakes. Not every show is going to go 100% as planned. And that’s ok. Once you accept that and just focus on loving the music and you realize that mistakes are what makes you human, all of those wrong notes you’ve played suddenly won’t be a big deal anymore.

Seth: I suffer from stage fright every time we have a show. As a beginner of live music myself, if I could give advice, it would be that there is no other feeling like being on stage, so you might as well just push through the fear and do it because you won’t regret a second of it.

10. What bands have inspired you the most?

Chase: Lately it's beeb Wage WAR but I've been a pop punk kid all my life. Old New Found Glory has my heart.

Myles: Twenty One Pilots. By far. Hometown boys (Columbus, OH) showed me that it takes hard work, dedication, humility and a massive respect for the process to reach and exceed your dreams.

Seth: I have two big inspirations when it comes to music, vocally and as a guitarist. As a guitarist, surprisingly, blink-182 (Tom Delonge) was who inspired me to play guitar. The first riff I ever learned was the beginning of Stay Together For The Kids by them and since then I haven’t stopped playing. Vocally, this may come as a surprise to a lot of people but, it would have to be none other then, the man himself, Phil Collins. Phil has given me so much inspiration when it comes to singing and I would have never even considered starting if it weren’t for him. So, thank you Phil, from the bottom of my heart.

11. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Chase: They asked if I knew ronnie frI'm Jersey Shore.

Myles: Can I play your drums?

Josh:  "I once signed a potato. This dude had been taking a potato to shows for a while and collecting autographs"

Seth: Honestly, I haven’t been playing live long enough to have any weird requests, so at this time I would have to say an autograph. I never in my life thought I would ever sign a piece of my merch for someone. That feeling is life changing.

12. What do you think of your fans?

All of us are so thankful to have fans that support our music. They are the best.

Seth: Our fans are the only reason we are here today. I mean sure you can start a band and play music but we wouldn’t have any substance if it weren’t for the fans. So for that we say thank you, immensely.

13. Something to add?

Myles: This band has brought me to places I never thought I’d get to. And I thank them for it. I’m so thankful and proud to call these three misfit dudes my family.

Seth: My something to add I just mentioned, but thank you to everyone who supports us in what we do. We get that metalcore isn’t the most popular genre throughout the world. My parents don’t even like it. But, it’s what we love to play and what we are good at playing, so thank you for everyone who sticks by our side during this journey as Renegades. You are all loved.
