Interviews: Alias May

In this new occassion we have had the opportunity to interview the Post-Hardcore band Alias May from Australia. Check out the interview and this band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

We talked about ideas for a suitable name for quite some time, its not the easiest thing for 5 guys to agree and vibe a name and we went through about 3 other names before we settled with Alias May. The name has a few hidden meanings but its nothing really that interesting or cryptic, its more personable than anything, we just find it to be original and also the best name to correlate with the music we play!

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

We all come from different backgrounds and have so many music tastes, we all grew up in the same era of music one way or another (90s/00s), which gave way to an extremely amazing amount of musical talent and we were all fortunate enough to be inspired by these bands one way or another that carried us into the now. Rock music is universal and speaks to everyone, there is no segregation, we love that we can go moody and heavy in one song to really light and ambient in another.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

All of us have been friends for a very long time before this band, its important that a we can have that brotherhood, as the chemistry is vital for success.

4. Each member favourite band?

...Have to give two!!

MITCH: DEFTONES / NINE INCH NAILS

TOMAS: HE IS LEGEND / THE JULIANA THEORY
ROBERT: DEVIN TOWNSEND / NIGHT VERSES
AARON: QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE / HOT WATER MUSIC
NICK: QOTSA / DREDG

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

It can be really cliche to say this, but there are just certain moments in life that inspire you the most to write music, but as a general fuel for the band we look backwards to go forwards in music, there is so much amazing music that came before us, stories that need to be told again. We also really love the unknown in human life, space and circumstance!

6. Where was your last gig?

Melbourne, Australia

7. Where would you like to act?

We would love to travel, we have an amazing love for the world and its culture, Europe (Germany especially) and Japan would be first on the list!!

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

We would love to play with Bring Me The Horizon, TDWP, Circa Survive and Thrice, but we aren't fussed, we just want to play with anyone.

9. Whom not?

Anyone is welcome to jam with us live.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Depending on the type of show and attendance, you have a mixture of emotions, we all feel really grateful to be able to play music together and we will always get nervous before a show to a certain level, its a welcome pressure to perform well and be received well by the audience. The best advice is to be over prepared, play the shit out of your set list until you dream about it every night.

11. Which bands have you influenced the most?

This list could go on for a very long time, but i think we draw a lot of influence from bands such as He Is legend, Thrice, Circa Survive, Alice In Chains, Deftones, A Perfect Circle, The Bled and many many many more...

12. What´s was the weirdest thing a fan ever asked you for?

Mitch signed a dudes ass once, it was a beautiful ass

13. What do you think of your fans?

We are still an emerging band, and we love to see new faces at every show or any encounters we have on social media, we think all of our fans so far are amazing and supportive, and we only hope to see more as the journey continues.

14. What do you think of our site?

Breathing The Core is a fantastic hub for finding and supporting new bands, without music blogs and websites like this, we wouldn't be able to connect with people around the world and share our music with everyone, so thank you for that!!

15. Something to add?

Please support all emerging and up and coming artists, purchase their music when you can afford to do so, and if you cant stream the fuck out of it and spread the word as it keeps the wheels turning and opens the doors to further opportunities to create music and tour. Much Love!
