Interviews: Aurora Under Water

In this new occassion we have had the opportunity to interview the  Metalcore/Post-Hardcore band Aurora Under Water from USA. Check out the interview and this band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1.Where did you get the idea for your band name. Did you have it planned, or did it just come out like that?

The came around in 2013 when our guitarist, Greeno, was living in Colorado Springs, which is near Aurora, Colorado. One day over the news it came up that Aurora had flooded and the announcer said it's "Aurora Under Water."

Since then he's been waiting for the right moment to use the name because it just stuck for the next 4 years.

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

We all love the energy and musicianship that comes out of the genre. Even though we have a sort of blend of Ska, Reggae, Metalcore, Post-Hardcore, and other mixes of genres. We just play when we all enjoy and gain inspiration from.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

None of us knew each other at all. We're actually a full-fledged Craigslist band. Since we're out of Las Cruces, New Mexico, there's not a lot of musicians to choose from or a great way to get to know musicians. So, we all used our resources and, bam, here we are today. Good old social media.

4. What is each band member’s favourite band?

Greeno (Rhythm Guitar/Clean Vocals) - Crystal Lake
Puff (Drummer) - Poison the Well
Sushi (Lead Guitar) - Alexisonfire
Ryan Lauterbach (Bass) - Sevendust
Mark (Vocals) - Dir en Grey

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

What inspires us to write songs are our past experiences. “A lot of the Submerged EP is about past experiences I’ve had in my life from being homeless/suicidal to fighting to better my life and my situation. Mark does an extremely good job projecting my choruses/verses in his writing process.”

Instrumentally we aim to have a sound that is fun, but something that is also “us.”

Also the constant support from our families and loved one TRULY inspire us to do music.

6. Where was your last gig?

Our last gig was at the Rockhouse Bar & Grill with Near an Open Flame on their tour.

Our next gig will be the Summer Slaughter Tour battle of the bands in Denver, CO at The Roxy. Fingers crossed on winning!

7. Where would you like to perform at?

We would all kill to one day perform, or do a tour, in Japan. Though that’s aiming big.

Other places the whole band would like to play are places like the Del Rey Historical Theater and the Sunshine Theater in Albuquerque, NM. Others in our hometowns like New Jersey or Dallas.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

We would love to feature with any of our favorite bands and also really any local bands that are looking to feature and have fun doing it.

9. Whom not?

We do our best to stay neutral, so we really don’t have anyone we WOULDN’T want to feature with.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat it?

The best way to overcome stage fright is to take the plunge. The more you do it the more comfortable you become with yourself.

Also, practice enough to gain the confidence in your ability and you won’t have that fear of messing up or performing badly.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

A lot of the bands that have inspired us are, really, our favorite bands from before.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

The weirdest thing fans have asked us for, in our opinion, is 1 more song or for us to sign our EP for them. As a smaller band that’s something we have not expected at all.

13. What do you think of your fans?

We LOVE our fans and we love interacting, talking with, and hanging out with our fans. New and old, we are extremely humbled by the support we have gotten from them for the past year.

14. What do you think of our site?

It’s amazing! To promote other bands especially around the world is an amazing thing to do. Especially for the little guys like us out there.
