Interviews: Axis Of Despair

In this new occassion we have had the opportunity to interview the  Grindcore band Axis Of Despair from Sweden. Check out the interview and this band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

When we were about to name the band we had an on-going brainstorming session for a few weeks that ended up in a list of 124 suggestions. None worked! While scanning lyrics from different bands for inspiration I found this line from Assück's "Perpetual Cycle" - "The perpetual cycle rotates on the axis of despair." - and really liked Axis of Despair. The rest of the band approved and we finally got a name.

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

It's fun to play grindcore, it's as easy as that. It's also challenging to play grindcore as it is a quite limited genre. To be creative within the boundaries of the music style is a good drive for us to write and play.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Yes, Anders, Oskar and Joel have been playing together for twelve years, starting in 2006 with Coldworker. Axis of Despair started in 2014, so Kristofer is "the new guy" in that sense.

4. Each band member favourite band?

Joel: Slayer
Anders: Frank Zappa
Oskar: Pearl Jam
Kristofer: Fiend

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

I can't really say that there are any particular bands that we pick inspiration from.

Obviously there are a bunch of grindcore bands that has laid the grounds for us to stand on, so to speak, but basically what ever we likes inspires us. The lyrics originate from more or less anything around us. News, media, or books and movies.

6. Where was your last gig?

It was a show in our home town Örebro supporting the death metal band Facebreaker. It was quite fun, although there could have been much more people attending the show...

7. Where would you like to act?

Any tour would be fun, but it's always fun to play in the USA or Japan.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

My belief is that a grindcore band benefits from playing with other types of genres, so perhaps a death metal band or some good hardcore band would work fine with us.

9. Whom not?

Any racist band.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

I guess at some point every musician has suffered from stage fright to some degree.

Personally I think that a little splash of anxiety just helps you to focus when it times to hit the stage.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

It’s actually very hard to say. As explained earlier we don’t really have any specific band that we pick inspiration from. We like a bunch of different stuff and most of it inspires us in some way.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

So far I don't think we've gotten any particularly weird questions. I am looking forward to that day.

13. What do you think of your fans?

Scum of the earth... No, just kidding, obviously! We are happy for the support we get.

14. What do you think of our site?

I'm afraid that I have yet to experience it. What do you think of our band?

15. Something add?

Thanks for the support. Check out axisofdespair.com or our Facebook page for news and info about the band.
