Interviews: Circle Of Crows

In this new occassion we have had the opportunity to interview the  Hard Rock band Circle Of Crows from UK. Check out the interview and this band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

Circle Of Crows is a name Josh (Bass) came up with when the old line-up wanted to change from our previous name (Breathe). We spent a few weeks tossing ideas back and forth and when Josh said that name it was just something we all instantly loved.

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

In regards to genre we've never really discussed our motivation. We all grew up listening to and loving rock and metal music so I suppose it just naturally came out like that when we started writing songs but within that scope we never put too much pressure on ourselves to sound a certain way. If it works, it works.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

The band formed after I (Kyle, vocals/guitar) bumped into Steve (drums) one night and decided to have a jam. We'd known each other for years having played gigs together in various separate bands. Josh (Bass) played with me in an earlier incarnation of Circle Of Crows and he'd just moved back to Cornwall from Brighton so it made sense to get him back on board.

4. Each band member favourite band?

Favourite bands - Kyle (guitar/vocals) - Soundgarden/Bruce Springsteen,

Steve (drums) - Muse/Incubus

Josh (bass) - Red Hot Chilli Peppers/Rage Against The Machine.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

We have no definitive inspiration for songwriting. Josh or I will usually bring an idea in and we just work on it, each member suggesting things and we'll try everything until it comes together. We never worry about finding a certain sound or genre, as long as we all like it it's worth exploring. Lyrically I usually draw from personal experiences, singing these songs is a sort of cathartic exercise for me.

6. Where was your last gig?

Our last gig was at The Underground in Plymouth as part of one of their Turbulence Festival showcase shows.

7. Where would you like to play?

We'd like to play everywhere to be honest. We've never gigged in the north of England so that's an ambition of ours for the near future, to do a tour across the country. It would also be great to play in Europe.

8. Who would you like to support?

We'd love to support Biffy Clyro or Muse, as well as some American bands like Alter Bridge and Incubus.

9. Who not?

I think the only bands we wouldn't want to support are bands that are too far removed genre wise from us but only because it wouldn't make for a cohesive evening of music. In terms of the rock/metal world we'd gladly play with anyone.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

None of us have ever suffered from severe stage fright but we all still get a bit nervous before a show. To be honest, I've always welcomed that feeling. I think it just shows that we care about gigs at any level and I just use it to make sure I put on the best show possible

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

I think we take a lot of inspiration from 3 piece bands, Biffy Clyro, Muse, Rage Against The Machine, Arcane Roots. Groups where just one guitar, drums and bass make a huge amount of noise. Songwriting wise I think Soundgarden, Alter Bridge, Incubus. Bands who do their own thing and don't necessarily worry about one sound.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

It wasn't so much a strange request but a guy once kissed my feet after a show. That was odd.

13. What do you think of your fans?

We love our fans. It's so nice to know the music we created means something to other people. To get the  chance to go out and play and watch them sing along and enjoy our songs is amazing.

14. What do you think of our site?

Your site is great. It's so nice to know there are places out that push unsigned Rock/Metal music in such a positive way. I love that you push interviews as well as new releases and everything is linked in for ease of access.

15. Something to add?

Just to add that our EP is out on August 17th and the first track is available to hear right now on our Youtube channel.
