Interviews: REAWAKEN

In this new occassion we have had the opportunity to interview the  Alternative Rock band REAWAKEN from UK. Check out the interview and this band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

The name was one of many that we had in a list that we’d made when we heard a word or saying that we liked. We started narrowing down the list until we were happy with a name. Some of the other names now we look back were quite funny…Hyperdark, Silvera and Stricken which just reminded Meg of chicken.

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

We were all fans of bands from this genre first and enjoy not only listening to it but also performing it. We love the atmosphere it creates both on stage as a performer and off stage as a fan, as it is a genre that reaches out to so many people.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Gill and Nathan first met when they were 16 years old at college and through their love of music have remained friends ever since, Gill went on to meet Matt through mutual friends and started hanging out together which lead on to them jamming as a duo. Nathan went on to make this duo and trio. Joe met Gill at ACM Guildford (Academy of Contemporary Music) while they were both studying music performance, Joe approached Gill about joining the band after their ex bassist left due to commitment issues. Meg met everyone through performing in and around Southampton and after our ex vocalist left she auditioned and joined the band in 2016.

4. Each band member favourite band?

Meg - favourite vocalist’s are: Amy Lee, Peggy Lee and Christina Aguilera
Gill - Sum 41
Matt - Guns ’N’ Roses
Joe - Iron Maiden
Nathan - Depends on what i’m in the mood for/ listening to at the time

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Past Relationships both lovers and friendships. Songs we have been listening to at that moment in time inspire us to write our own material.

We take inspiration from anything, any song or genre that might have something interesting within the song. Some recent inspirations have come from bands such as Hands like Houses, Architects & while she sleeps

6. Where was your last gig?

Our last gig was supporting Reef on the main stage at BLove Festival in Basingstoke.

7. Where would you like to perform?

We would all dearly love to perform at the o2 arena in London (might as well aim high) as we have all seen some truly inspiring shows there as music fans.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Matt - would love a Slash guest solo
Gill - Tres Cool
Joe - Steve Harris
Meg - Amy Lee
Nathan - Jenna from Tonight Alive

9. Whom not?

We’re always open to suggestions of featured artists as everyone brings something unique to the table.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Gill suffered from stage fright while studying at ACM (Academy of Contemporary Music). This was covered in one of her lectures and the lecturer talked about how he got over his stage fright, Gill has since adopted this technique and uses with every performance. The technique is this:
As soon as the song kicks in Gill listens to one guitar part only and focuses on how her part links with it, once she has done this she then listens to the other guitar part. She does the same thing with bass and vocals. By the time she has worked her way through listening to how her part works with everyone else’s she is half way through the first song and no longer scared.

Nathan - I don’t often get stage fright anymore but it depends on where we are playing and who we are performing in front of. My advise would be to know your parts but remember you’re up on stage with your mates so just enjoy it and have fun.

Joe - Depends on the situation and who you're playing with. I used to get stage fright really badly when I first started, I was having borderline panic attacks on stage. Luckily, when I was in college/uni and when I was doing accordion competitions, I was in scenarios where I was forced to play in front of a lot of different people. Biting the bullet and just forcing myself to do it really helped me gain confidence in myself. I also find that playing with people you trust can really help you out, as you have someone there to help you out when things aren't going as planned.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Matt - Guns ’N’ Roses
Gill - Green Day, Sum 41
Meg - Amy Lee, Christina Aguilera
Nathan - Depends what i’m in the mood to listen to
Joe - Coheed and Cambria

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Nothing bizarre as of yet.

13. What do you think of your fans?

They’re absolutely incredible, very supportive, love our live shows and can’t wait for more new music.

14. What do you think of our site?

Well laid out, easy to use, informative, direct, great colours, fantastic hub of new music, fantastic platform for new bands
