Interviews: Suicidio Colectivo

In this new occassion we have had the opportunity to interview the Trash Metal/Metalcore/Hardcore band Suicidio Colectivo from Chile. Check out the interview and this band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

Initially it was a song name, something like the very first song of the band when the band didn´t have a name yet. This song named Suicidio Colectivo, talked about how a violent society fight and hurt itself with apathy, greedy, and selfish behaviors, where it doesn’t matters who is at your side, people is intended to reach their goals any way, any cost, even if it means to shit on someone else, a behavior leading to a society to kill itself... to a collective suicide.

Then one day we went to record a demo, and the guy recording asked us “guys what´s the name of the band?” and well, that´s where the name came out, because of the song mentioned before.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Basically because of the influence differences that we have in the band… Joaquin and Ricardo grew up listening to hardcore and most of all Punkrock music. Meanwhile Marcelo was more close to the thrash metal, then… it´s like our music naturally merged in this genre.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Well, something like that, Ricardo and Joaquin are brothers, but in 2008, when the band was born, the member were different, it was the brothers, and their friend Sebastian Morales, but due to availability issues, he couldn´t continue. With Marcelo, they meet sharing stage in a gig, he was in another band named “En-Coma”, Marcelo offered as a temporal replacement for Sebastian… it started to work good, then Marcelo left his old band and well… after almost 8 years, there he is, still doing the temporal replacement ahahaha.

4. Each band member favourite band?

Hard to pick one… because truth is that we like a lot of music from different styles, but the core music, or the bands that where the most important could be:

Joaquin: Misfits
Ricardo: Soziedad Alkoholika
Marcelo: Rage against the machine

We could add bands that we have in common, like Mastodon, Alice in Chain, Soda stereo, los prisioneros, among others, big influence to us.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Actually these are the personal daily experiences, usually, our lyrics talks about thing that we feel when we look around us or analyze our self internally… this makes it more authentic. We now these are not lyrics taken from a “good selling” shelf, and then used as an easy way to hook on people, the good thing is that when someone says “hey! I really liked that lyric” it´s really nice and satisfying, because you know that you are making a connection with that person, something real, a feeling that is shared in common.

6. Where was your last gig?

In “Espacio56”,  in Santiago-CL, a DIY self-managed place, that makes events for the Hardcore/Metal/Punk movement in the capital city. A place that even if it´s for underground music, it has count with shows with big bands from Latin America, Europe, and USA.

7. Where would you like to act?

Maybe it´s not about the specific place, but to have the opportunity to show our performance in a concert with a really big audience, probably on an international big concert, but anyway, as we always say, if the day comes, good, if not, well, we are really happy playing on bars, benefits events, squat houses, and neighborhood court. Those are the places where you can talk with the people, were everyone is equal to eachother.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

There is only one single and unanimous answer, Soziedad Alkoholika.

9. Whom not?

With any band that has any relationship with Nazis or fascists… we are continuously checking who is inviting us to events, because in Metal, there are people that feels superior to others, just because of the country, skin color or even the music style they hear… this kind of bands we are not interested to share with.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Maybe at the beginning… the typical stomach cramps, but then with the experience you learn to control it and to transform it on pure energy on the stage. Anyway that feeling never disappears completely, but that´s something good, because it means that we still have feelings when we perform.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

That will depend on what time we stand… at the beginning it were all those bands with pure energy, speed and rage, like cro-mags, local punk rock such as Fiskales Ad-Hok, los Miserables, then you grow up, and start to like other styles, you learn to listen music, and appreciate other kind of styles, to like the vanguard, such as Mastodon or Dillinger Scape plan, or maybe you find yourself listening to that old rock and roll punk like Ilegales.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Nothing yet that we could remember as weirdest

13. What do you think of your fans?

That they are friends, we share something in common and that it´s amazing that they like our music as much as we do.

14. What do you think of our site?

It´s an excellent place for bands and music, with a money donative policy, it speaks that you are doing a very good work, because if there is people donating money to keep it on, then it means that you are doing the right thing! Keep it on!

15. Something add?

Fuck the police!
