Interviews: Marked As An Enemy

In this new occassion we have had the opportunity to interview  the Metalcore band Marked As An Enemy from Czech Republic. Check out the interview and this band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

BOB: I dont know. When i joined the band, the band had its name for a while.

FRANCESCO: At that time we had a lot of fun about that name. We talked about the names of HC and metal bands from 80´ & 90´ and Pavel started "Whatever we call ourselves, the name should contain f*ck, hate or destroy" (hahaha). And that was basically such a description of an imaginary figure that is Marked As An Enemy.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

BOB: When i was 15 I played the guitar and sung in the band called Vagabongs. We were playing poppunk-core. You know, metal and hardcore were always close to my heart and i was good in scream and growl. Then i found metalcore, i put guitar away and the rest is the history.

PAVEL: Yes, I was always intrested in very hard genre. I listened to bands like Slayer, Sepultura or Napalm Death. I always wanted to play metal or core. Unfortunately when nu-metal showed up, i was like: "uhh, thats bulshit, i need music faster and harder“. Thanks god for the bands like Heaven Shall Burn, Hateshpere or Cataract.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

BOB: I knew only Francesco from the bars and venues around the city. Actualy that was him who came to me and invited me to sing in MAAE.

FRANCESCO: With Petr we know each other for about 10 years. We jammed together in many bands that no one ever heard about but we still keep desire to play together more seriously. And when we met Pavel and he asked us to join the band together, there was no other way.

4. Each band member favourite band?

BOB: righ now I listene to A Day To Remember, for Pavel August Burns Red, for Francesco As I Lay Dying and for Petr… I´m not pretty sure, probably While She Sleeps.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

BOB: Thats a question for Pavel because he's the one writting them.

PAVEL: When we talk about the music I always tried to go my own way. For sure, i do listen to many new bands and probably i am inspired by their guitar and composer skills. I am not doing new stuffs like: "i want to play this and that“. Maybe it could be the reason why we are on the middle way from metal to core and we have tough possition in both scenes. And when we talk about lyrics – my own life inspires me the most.

6. Where was your last gig?

BOB: We are were touring a lot during last summer, but our last gig, it was in Pilsen, was special. We play with spanish Meltdown and we played in some coffe corner right on the main street in the centre. It was on friday night and most of the young people were sitting in restaurants close by. We were pretty noise – caps came three times to calm us down. And we were pushing this crasy metalcore to those posh faces on the street. It was really raw.

7. Where would you like to act?

BOB: With full force festival or touring the venues on the coast next to the sea.

FRANCESCO: I'd rather play at one of the VANS Warped Tour festivals! I will meet all the best bands that like and finally I’d have some nice tan there (hope they will keep the tradition and dont move it to winter time)

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

BOB: There is many bands on that list: While She Sleeps, Heaven Shall Burn or Parkway Drive

9. Whom not?

BOB: You know, we are quite openminded so there is not many of those, but we will never play with the ones who are calling for violence, rasism, and other shits like this.

FRANCESCO: Yeah. Thats right – and we put this condition into the band rider too. We‘ll never play with these people or even at actions that will support such crap. In case we find out on the spot, we immediately leave. We are peaceful people, we like to play with people of all beliefs and opinions, but we can’t respect such manners.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

BOB: I always had the stage fright, but i am getting better. There´s no doubt that i sometimes feel a little bit anxious when i have to speak to people in the pause between the songs but its not hard to overcome that. The importtant thing is to be chill and natural when you are on the stage and know what you want to say. But for sure the practice is needed. Not everyone can be the best at the first time. Just be relaxed the world is not going to the end when you mess it up.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

BOB: For me While She Sleeps, Parkwaydrive and Czech band Skywalker.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

BOB: When we dont talk about usual groopie vs. band stuff… It was on the HP fest two years back. One girl came to me and asked for my dirty and smelly T- shirt that I was wearing during the show. For sure i gave it to her.

FRANCESCO: Once when I was in a pub, I was chatting with my friend at the bar. Two girls came to me and asked if I was the mister from the poster on the wall. My legs crackled with laughter, I barely said yes and at that moment the girls left. That was the all they cared about.

13. What do you think of your fans?

BOB: We are very lucky – we have very crazy fans. Probably its because we all are a little crazy too. We alway enjoy the time with them during the show and after that we are usualy partying with them till the morning hours.

14. What do you think of our site?

BOB: You know, sometimes we feel lost in the world and any tool which makes people closer to each other is good. I do like your site, because you keep a lot of similar people, bands and music categories together under one roof. And on the end of the day – it makes our lifes easier – i dont need to search for the bands on the whole internet. I can go to your side and go through your library one by one without making mistake and wasting my time.

15. Something add?

BOB: We realy do appreciate you choose our band for the interview. Thank you very much for this. And if you dont mind, we would use these lines to say thank you to our fans and listeners here on your site or all around the world. Thank you guys, keep rollin´ and good luck.
