Behind The Artwork: Theudho - De roep van het woud (2018)
For the new album, I
wanted to stay away from digital art or photography. Given the theme
and title of the album, a woodland scene seemed appropriate. I was
looking at a lot of paintings from the 18th
and 19th
century, however, the problem with using a traditional painting as
cover art is of course that others may have already used it before
you.
To avoid this issue,
I chose to alter an “unusable” painting by the Russian painter
Ivan Ivanovich Shishkin, namely “Rain in an Oak Forest”. The
people were edited out, the trees rearranged and the colours
modified to fit the final vision.
