Interviews: Cloudburst

In this new occassion we have had the opportunity to interview the Metal/Hardcore band Cloudburst from Indonesia. Check out the interview and this band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

Hello, this is Okta, I'm gonna answer the questions on behalf of Cloudburst. I forgot how the name can be Cloudburst. At the time because the Cloudburst name is just right and fit to our music, right in your face, destructive yet beautiful and also the name looks simple and easy to remember

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

At the beginning of 2008 me and Yudha are listening to a lot of "mathcore" bands like Norma Jean and Botch and we began to feel "THIS IS THE MUSIC THAT I WANT TO PLAY". But we did not realize that we can play this kind of music until 2009 when Converge released Axe To Fall. The urge to play this chaotic music suddenly arrived.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

We got to know each other for a long time, me and Yudha were friends of junior high school in 2002, while Ridho and Yogi were scene partners since 2010. Just like that, we are in the same circle

4. Each band member favourite band?

We are fan of same bands actually. Currently we are listening to Protesters, Dead In The Dirt, Red Death, Palms. Projects from Billy Rymer, Ben Koller, Nick Yacyshyn, Jesse Doren, Todd Jones and Mark Palm. Yogi is a big fan of John Frusciante, he listens to all music created by him
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

It is just came out like that. Some bands try to sophisticate their music by making it difficult or putting some time signature changes every two seconds. For us, it is came out naturally. Maybe because we live in third wold country that full of chaos and problems. Our music is our expression of our own environment and daily experience.

6. Where was your last gig?

It is in January. We played with good friends from Singapore, hardcore punk band called Bethari

7. Where would you like to act?

Everywhere, as long as you don't have a lot of asshole

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

What I love about this underground culture is we have no boundaries. Most of the times when the band is playing, crowds joined them, they go right at the stage and snatched the microphone and sing like their lives depend on it. Almost no differences between artist and the fans. So if the question is whom would we like to feature with, we would like to feature our friends, our crowds. That's more meaningful for us. But if we talked about "musician", maybe some guest vocals from JR Hayes won't hurt.

9. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

At our first show, yeah maybe. But at time goes on we realize that we have nothing to be afraid of. These crowds are our friends. We are not afraid of our friends, we accept them, they accept us. That's it
10. What bands have inspired you the most?

We inspired by a lot of hard-worker bands from our hometown. Bands like Deadly Weapon, Headkrusher, Exhumation and Warmouth. Their work ethic are our benchmark.

11. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

There is no more "asking for a free download" culture here in Indonesia. I think it is pretty good progress. Back in the day, we receive a lot of questions about free download, which is kind of annoying.
12. What do you think of your fans?

They are our friends, our families. They are cool, I guess

13. What do you think of our site?

Great website, very informative, thanks for interviewing us.

14. Something add?

Our album is out in January 4th. Go support if you think our music is worth a dollar. Thanks
