Interviews: Deathtura

In this new occassion we have had the opportunity to interview the  Trash Metal band Deathtura from Belgium. Check out the interview and this band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or just came like that?

In an ancient culture, “Tura” meant the strength of a social life and personal developement, wear in itself the faith of justice and kindness. What’s no longer today in our opinion. The death of Tura became then : DEATHTURA.

2. Why did you want to play that genre?

We had a real evolution in this band ! Our first demo “Feel the reaper” was oriented in pure Thrash, as our second “Psychotic Disaster”. After that, things just happened... We spend a lot of time without recording anything, we were just playing together. Our first song for this album was “Fury”, we loved this result and decided to follow this track.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Not really... At the beginning, Jeff and Jack was searching for a new drummer, my uncle was playing in the same band as Jeff’s father, then we met through this intermediary. Jerem was a friend of mine before he join Deathtura, then when Julien left in April 2017 we just asked him to play guitar just the time for us to find an definitive one. The contact has quickly passed and he’s still here today. About Bastian, we were searching for a singer after Julien’s departure. I Wrote an ad, and one month later he came to audition. He already knew all the songs, and his voice matched perfectly to the band! So, it was evident to work together!

4. Each band member favourite band?

Bastian Flames: “ Slipknot !!!! They rocked my youth, learned me what Metal is and made me want to push my first cries before singing! Well beyond being a group, it is above all an inspira-tion and an emotion ! “

Nico Mike D. : “ I wanted to talk about Shaka Ponk ! I know it’s not a Metal band, but not too far for some songs ! I really love their songs, but I widely prefer their Live perfomances! The energy, the show, the effects, the coordination ! Everything is there... They inspire me ! “

Jerem: “Dissection! In my opinion, Jon Nödtveidt had a way to compose wich was completely incredible ! He could have inspired every single guitarist and composer, so why not me ?”

Jeff: “ I hesitated between Pantera and Gojira, but Pantera is my really first Metal slap ! We cannot be indifferent to the guitar playing of Dimebag ! Mix it to the incredible voice of Anselmo, the poweful drums technique of Vinnie Paul, and the solid bass of Rex for supports, an explosive cocktail !! Such a great influence for composing riffs that makes you want to moove your ass! “

Jack: “ Would be very difficult for me to talk about only one band... It’s exactly the same when I have to compose, I don’t really have an exact influence, I just scratch my bass and when I have something, sometime it remember me a band and I deepen that. “

5. Who or what inspiresyou to write songs?

Bastian: “ Here, we have a broad and wide question because it touches everything we can im- agine ... In my opinion, inspiration and imagination, that’s the key ! It must necessarily coexist. If a photographer can tell you a story with only a picture, I might think I can give an emotion to those who listen to our songs. If I can turn 2 seconds of inspiration into a song of three minutes while keeping the passion and the tension, it’s successful, and I’m having fun!

Composing is something spontaneous, punctual, and instantaneous. The best composition are coming from nowhere, you are simply on your phone and you hum something in your mouth. I can remember sometimes when I ran to my computer or paper to write ideas, sometimes it works and sometimes you forget it during your race...

I have some rules about my songs, I’ll share you one of them : if you stop headbanging while you’re singing, just throw that part of the song and remake it. ” We think that eveybody has something to say ! There are different ways to do it, and for us, it’s music ! It’s all about emotion and sharing.

6. Where was you last gig?

Our last “real” gig was back in February, we played in Louvain-la-Neuve (Belgium) the night of Bastian’s birthday with the friends of KomaH and Suasion at the “Eristic Fest”. We did an other in Juny, but this one was an auto-produced gig where we filmed our second Videoclip. We asked some fans to come for our “private gig”, the atmosphere was at the top!!

7. Where would you like to act?

Graspop Metal Meeting, Hellfest Open Air, Dynamo Festival, Summerbreeze, they are some European festivals where we would like to act. We went there when we were younger as “cus- tomers”. In fact, play on stages where we saw our favorite bands playing would be a dream for a lot of musicians. But for myself, I would love to play at Wacken Open Air ! As a metal fan it has been the best festival I have ever lived. It would be amazing to play there !!

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

We are already planning a collaboration with the friends of Lethal Injury, we talked about to share some stages. Maybe it will happen, we hope so ! They also signed with WormHoleDeath, so it would be great to share gigs with guys on the same Label !

9. Whom not?

Hum ... we are afraid to regret the answer... Joker ? AHAH

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Jeffrey: “ I think everybody has already suffered from stage fright, for myself, I was stressed at the begin of the band, I spend a lot of time turning around in the backstage to breathe well. And when you hit the stage, you feel that the pressure falls and you can enjoy your gig ! For Jerem, it’s quite different ... He spend a few minutes doing jumping rope before to hit the stage. “

11. What bands have you inspired the most?

Would it be evident to talk about Metallica ? But for us, the bands who inspired us the most are bands like Pantera, mainly about the groove and the power ! As well, we can also talk about Channel Zero, apart from the fact they are from Belgium, their music is such a great inspiration for us.

12. What´s the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

It’s not really something he asked us, but we have a fan who got inked our logo on his arm. He dit it secretly during our recording session at RealSound Studio, and he joined us in Italy to show his new crazy tatoo.

13. What do you think of your fans?

We have an anecdote to qualify them ! Back in 2015, when we were playing at the Imagine Con- test, for the first step of this contest, we had to go to the other end of the country. And a group a fans shared a giant Bus to join us and support our presentation ! The atmosphere was crazy and they blew the decibelmeter !! I think if I can qualify them using one word, I would use “ loyalty”.

14. What do you think of our site?

Compared to other Metal news sites, we thought that yours is very clear ! All your informations are legible, not too much on the same page, the “Search by country” is such a really cool idea ! Very interesting if I want to discover bands from my region.

15. Something to add?

We would like to thank you again for the proposition and your interest ! But we don’t think we have something particular to add...
