Interviews: Desert Clouds

In this new occassion we have had the opportunity to interview the  Rock/Stoner band Desert Clouds from UK. Check out the interview and this band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

It comes from a song we released in 2008. The song was all about the evanescence of all the ideals, religions and hopes a man can imagine or embrace. The “Desert” represents Life and “Clouds” all the things listed above. Things that you can imagine, chase and, sometimes, transform into life meanings…but it the end they are just clouds, often real only in your imagination.

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

There’s not a specific reason. I wouldn’t even say that it is intentional. Sometimes you do things without knowing why. Actually, we don’t have only one genre, but we range among different ones, from Psychedelic Rock to Grunge, from Blues to Acid ballads.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Not really, only me and Val who formed the band in 2008 have had a long-lasting friendship. Then, once in London, we first met Andrea, and only recently Julius who has replaced our previous bassist.

4. Each band member favourite band?

David: Dirty Three
Val: Radiohead
Andrea: Led Zeppelin
Julius: Opeth

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

It could be everything, it truly depends on how you perceive what’s in and around you.

6. Where was your last gig?

It was at the Black in White. We performed for a contest quarter-finals and went through winning both the crowd and the jury’s vote. On the 3rd November there will be the semi-finals at the same venue.
7. Where would you like to play?

We would really love to take part in either Glastonbury Festival, or Reading Festival. Ideally to both.

8. Who would you like to support?
Sonic Youth.

9. Who not?

We would rather not say.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Yeah, our drummer Andrea used to be very scared at the beginning. Gig after gig he realized that, it is that state of mind which makes you feel electrified and ready to face the stage. So, for whoever might feel the same: Keep that sensation with you, you will need it.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

There is not one who inspired us more than others. I think that life, music and art in general are a natural source of inspiration, and this is how it should be for everyone.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Once, a girl came to us after a gig and after complimenting about the music and hugging all of us, asked: “Why are you so sad?”

13. What do you think of your fans?

I think they are brave enough for still having the will of exploring their inner darkness with an out candle.

14. What do you think of our site?

We are very impressed how accurate and detailed it is. Very pleased that our interview will be posted on your website.
