Interviews: Hostile

In this new occassion we have had the opportunity to interview the Groove Metal/Trash Metal band Hostile from UK. Check out the interview and this band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

A.J.: When I started the band I wanted the music to be ferocious with a real high, live energy, I started the band with a guy named David Dorricott and we both agreed the name Hostile fit perfectly

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

Jay:  I enjoy releasing aggression out and this is the best outlet to do so

Ash: Raw loud heavy music is what we were drawn to since we were kids
Living in the birthplace of heavy metal must have some influence on us!

A.J.: i just love the energy of metal music and like Ash said, it must be in the veins!

Adam: I was brought up on heavy metal & it has always been a big part of my life, like A.J. Said its definitely in my veins, so to be able to express myself musically through a genere I love is a really cool thing.

Tom: I listen and enjoy all genres of music, however nothings gets me as excited as Metal – something about it just registered with me from an early age.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Jay: Me and AJ are brothers and luckily have got on really well even from an early age , I knew ash from our 1st ever "real" band when we where around 13/14 I think, and been good friends ever since.

Ash: Yeah me and jay have known each other since high school. We were in bands since we were 14 years old but more often we used to get 4 cans of strongbow super Cider, go over the cemetery house where Jay and A.J. Used to live in and watch pantera home videos

Adam: No. I joined Hostile the end of last year & it feels like I've known them for a lot longer than that as we get on so well & having loads in common like loving the hell out of Judas Priest & beer we get along just fine. Lads! Lads! Lads!

Tom: Being the newest member to Hostile, I’ve only recently come to know Ash and Jay via auditioning for their Pantera Tribute band! Now here I am playing Bass for Hostile!

4. Each band member favourite band?

Jay: Pantera

Ash: Iron Maiden

A.J: Judas Priest

Adam: Judas Priest

Tom: Architects – their work ethic in Tom’s absence is inspiring and I’m excited to hear Holy Hell now they have Josh on-board writing.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Jay: Personaly it's random for me I will just all of the sudden be in the mood and really want to write so I do it there and then, the more things that are going on in my life seems to also help unfortunately.

Tom: Listening to good music often evokes a feeling within me, which inspires me to go away and write something that could do the same for others!

Adam: A few things really. Anything from listening to my old vinyls & cds when I get nostalgic or even just discovering a new band that totally gets you pumped up makes you want to write a killer riff/song.

A.J.: I have to be in a good head space to write music, if things are nice and quiet then that is when I’m able to knuckle down and get ideas down, if there are too many distractions for me I tend to struggle

6. Where was your last gig?

Jay: Mammoth fest in Bristol. UK. Awesome gig!

Ash: yes it’s a great venue on the south coast of England, literally on the beach

A.J. Yes big thank you to Steve Dickson and all of the Mammothfest crew for having us

Adam: awesome gig

7. Where would you like to act?

Jay: I would like to set up a tour and hit the places that rarely get heavy bands play.

Ash: Brazil, since we seem to have a great following there!

A.J. I would say definitely Brazil and also Spain

Tom: Yeah Brazil! There was a tremendous response out there to our latest video so it’d be great to play a show there to show how grateful we are!

Adam:  Brazil would be a no brainer as the response we had off the Brazilian metal heads when we released our new single "Retribution" was overwhelming...

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Jay: Rise of the northstar, emmure, thy art is murder

Ash : Korn

Adam: Metallica

A.J.: Slayer

Tom: Trivium – I’d get to play Fortnite with Matt Heafy backstage

9. Whom not?

Jay: either of the Gallagher cunts

Ash: Manowar

Tom: Manowar

A.J.: Winger

Adam: Steps

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Jay: No

A.J: No, I get really excited but never stage fright. I always say just go out there and let them have it!!

Tom: A little as I haven’t gigged as regularly as the Hostile veterans! Trick is to just embrace any nerves you have, running away from it will just make you feel even more panicked!

Adam: No stage fright, just the anticipation before going on always gets me as I know whats about to come after that four count...
Nerves are natural & we have them because we care about the perfomance that we are about to deliver. Soon as  the first song kicks in you automatically settle in & then you enjoy the madness... use nerves as a tool not an enemy..

Ash: Nope! But the nerves are good! It shows you are about to do something you care about and keeps you on the ball

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Adam: Judas Priest, Metallica, Pantera, Megadeth, Slayer.. the list goes on.......

Jay: One minute silence, korn, machine head, soulfly, limp bizkit, pantera ,hatebreed

Ash: Judas Priest, particularly KK has had the biggest influence on us. He’s always there to offer us advice or critique when we ask

Tom: Slipknot, Lamb of God and Korn. They were my childhood.

A.J: Cool that Jay mentioned One Minute Silence as I took him to a show they played in Wolverhampton for his very first concert! They were awesome.  For me I would also say One Minute Silence, Judas Priest, Pantera, Korn and Machine Head

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Adam: An autograph haha!

Ash: Gotta be Jays sweaty vest he just played the show with in Belgium

A.J: yea that was pretty fucked up! Didn’t he do pretty much the whole European tour waring that vest?

Tom:  Being new to the band I haven’t been asked much! However, I have been instructed to grow my hair by fans who’ve seen the new video. Headbanging doesn’t look right without a full fro!

13. What do you think of your fans?

Jay: We appreciate any support we get and value absolutely everybody  who follows or acknowledge us and we hope to grow and bring more people into our family

A.J: love them to death and so grateful for every bit of support they give to us. I’ve got all the time in the world for our supporters

Ash: Really grateful for the support we get. We just wish we had the opportunity to play shows where we’re wanted more often. For example, one of our biggest fans and friend of the band lives in Spain, but we still haven’t been able to gig there!

Tom: Remind me of myself, metal addicts always wanting to listen to something heavy!

Adam: When I joined the band I didn't realise the span of the fans they had  around the world. So seeing how awseome & loyal the fans are to us is a real cool thing to experience...

14. What do you think of our site?

Jay: great for fans of real music.

A.J: a great site to discover some cool bands!

Adam: I think its really cool and full of great content and focuses on upcoming bands, which is great for bands like ourselves..

Tom: Yes, a Great outlet for finding out about new and upcoming bands - often Kerrang and the likes only focus on bigger groups!

15. Something to add?

Ash: 2019 is gonna see a lot more from Hostile so keep your eyes peeled

A.J: see you in the pit!
