Interviews: Of Our Design

In this new occassion we have had the opportunity to interview the  Metalcore band Of Our Design from UK. Check out the interview and this band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
Of Our Design was a name that was in a pool of many other ideas that we had at the time and we were looking for something different but expressive however we almost turned the idea away entirely. It was after we had fully exhausted many options for names that we realised we had been over thinking the process somewhat and landed with the choice. I thought it was interesting because of the way it could finish a variety of different phrases and be used in language with such versatility. The name is intended to capture the essence of freedom and choice on a personal level and the way the words themselves could be used in language mirrored the thinking behind it which also helped us make the choice in the end.
2.Why did you want to play this genre?
Metal in general is arguably the most diverse and expressive genre of music and allows us to explore any ideas we have creatively with no barriers to what we want to say or sound like and what keeps us interested in writing new music in the genre.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
I can only speak for myself so some of my favourites include Parkway Drive, Killswitch Engage and As I Lay Dying, some of the greats of the genre. My favourite upcoming band that comes to mind is Nexilva and some bands that I know the band enjoys are bands like Architects, Bring Me The Horizon and Periphery.
Myself and our Lead Guitarist, George, go way back to our first day of secondary school. It was many years later that we got into writing music together (and many more until we formed the band) but we struggled to find likeminded people who shared our passion for the music. As we left school both of us had encountered different members of the current band until eventually we came together and all become familiar with eachother after each of us had been in other bands or finished studies.
4. Each band member favourite band?
I can only speak for myself so some of my favourites include Parkway Drive, Killswitch Engage and As I Lay Dying, some of the greats of the genre. My favourite upcoming band that comes to mind is Nexilva and some bands that I know the band enjoys are bands like Architects, Bring Me The Horizon and Periphery.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Inspiration can almost literally come from any source. We just want to make music that makes us feel something and that makes others feel something real. 6. Where was your last gig?
Although we are far from veterans each member deals with this in their own way and if being in the band has taught me anything it's that there is no correct way to deal with it. The only thing that works for me is my pre-show ritual of practicing endlessly, right up until I have to stop to get ready to play.
With some great bands at a town near to us, Brentwood. It was a small little venue and we were put on by the awesome dudes in Greyhaven UK. It was their tour with Dayshifter and we played alongside our friends in Fortify which made for an incredible night and one of our favourite shows we've played.
7. Where would you like to act?
Download Festival would be a dream come true to play at with all of the history of the festival and the culture surrounding it. Warped Tour would also be on that list if I could go back in time. 8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Any of the bands from our favourites would be a great place to start!

9. Whom not?

We're up for anything.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
Although we are far from veterans each member deals with this in their own way and if being in the band has taught me anything it's that there is no correct way to deal with it. The only thing that works for me is my pre-show ritual of practicing endlessly, right up until I have to stop to get ready to play.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?

The site is a great place for new music and new artists to feature alongside many others from many different countries and is a priviledge to be a part of.
The most memorable influences are bands like Linkin Park and Bullet for my Valentine for getting me into heavier music to bands like Suicide Silence for achieving so much with the power of simplicity and Parkway Drive for constantly reinventing themselves.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Unfortunately (or fortunately?) for us we haven't got to that level where we have had many weird requests that come to mind.
13. What do you think of your fans?
They are loyal and dedicated to us and show us enormous support while we try to do the best work we can as we learn along the way. It's what we do it all for.
14. What do you think of our site?
The site is a great place for new music and new artists to feature alongside many others from many different countries and is a priviledge to be a part of.
