Interviews: Voragine Of Autumn

In this new occassion we have had the opportunity to interview the  Progressive Black Metal band Voragine Of Autumn from Chile. Check out the interview and this band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

The name of the band came from the amount of musical ideas that we presented when we started. We had composed many high contrast sound parts, so, we decided to name the sound as whirl or "Vorágine" in spanish
(our native language). “of Autumn” part came from the change that occurs in nature when we begin this season and how people are affected in their mood.

2. Why did you want to play this genre? Did you know each other before the band was formed?

We don´t focus on playing a particular style. First of all, we like music. We have dark, progressive and folk influences, that is the result in our first album entitled “Aphelion”.

The band was born in a meeting of two friends, the guitarists “S.Ulv” and “Nativo Pagano”, and between sharing guitar techniques and a couple of beers there was a fantastic musical feeling. The affinity started with the “black metal” sound and some subgenres, as well as the influences of progressive metal. Alex, another neighbor friend, came to play in a group of Latin-American folk band and when he entered “VoA”. his sound and execution on the bass were masterfully added. Before than years of line- up changes, Krono A. Nuñez tried out on drums. He was also influenced by black metal and progressive rock, and he joined by achieving a solid and accurate sound on drums.

3. Each band member favourite band?

Alex: Opeth.
Krono: Hexvessel.
S. Ulv: Arcturus, Emperor, Agalloch.
Nativo Pagano: Dissection, Borknagar, Enslaved.

4. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Our inspiration begins under the premise of a theme. In the “Aphelion” album the theme is existentialism and nature, and how the events that occur in the change of season can reflect the moods of the human being.

5. Where was your last gig?

We played at the "Ritual de Medianoche vol.II" fest, in June at the "Bar Óxido" in Santiago, Chile. On that occasion, we played with “Thvnvtos” and “Own Omnipresence”. That show was amazing!

6. Where would you like to act?

We love to play live. We would like to play, step by step, in representative places of our country, then in foreign stages, having as goal to play in big festivals such as those held in Europe and the USA.

7. Whom would you like to feature with? Whom not?

We do not have any preferences, but we would always like to present our
music with metal exponents.

8. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

There is always a small nerve before entering to the stage. it is the essence, and we believe that is what keeps the musician alive. A good preparation in the rehearsal room and a good approach to the presentation results in a good show on the stage.

9.What bands have inspired you the most?

Emperor, Enslaved, Opeth, 'Code', Borknagar, Ihsahn, Primordial, Hexvessel, Agalloch, Hail Spirit Noir, Fen (UK), Pillorian, Dissection, King Crimson there is a long list. We also like other musical genres such as the classic, 70´s progressive rock, some jazz, rock and post rock.

10. What do you think of your fans?

It is really inspiring everything that the fans give to us. Their opinions has been quite flattering; we think they are a vital part of the bands. Finally, they are the ones who are coming to the shows, buy merchandise and they comment about the work done by the bands and they show it with words and interest in talking to us when we get off the
stage.

11. What do you think of our site?

We appreciate the initiative to support emerging bands. It is important to have a place where you can find reviews of new music and interviews. It invites us to the possibility of finding new music.
