Interviews: Anmasker

In this new occassion we have had the opportunity to interview the Trash Metal band Anmasker from Ukraine. Check out the interview and this band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

From the very beginning, we wanted to come up with an original name without repetition. Such a name, which is easy to pronounce, bore sharpness, unambiguity and uncompromising. And at the same time, this name bore good traditions of speed and thrash metal. The name Unmasker existed from 2012 to 2016, but for the band these were not the most favorable years of existence, so we decided to distort the name a little. In connection with a new page in history, on April 6, 2016 it was officially decided to slightly rename the band's name on Anmasker (deliberate distortion of the word for artistic purposes). Thus, we left the old name and idea, achieved perfect authenticity and even put some listeners into confusion in terms of correct pronunciation of the first letter in the name). And then we had an idea to create our own mascot. It is known that the name of the band Anmasker is the distorted word Unmasker (exposer). And it is this name, as well the essence and the very face of our mascot is the basis of the name of our formidable protagonist, whom you can see both with the logo of the band name. In this regard, we gave him a name - Facemasker. This name is a mixture of the name of the band and the nature of the character, which you can see carefully by looking at it.

Facemasker (Face hiding behind the mask) is a harsh exposer, a just judge and a merciless executioner whose true guise is originally hidden behind the human mask which he tears off at the moment of bringing a bloody verdict over the convicts whom he rightly judges himself. His true face must be seen by every culprit before he is punished. A servant-vulture, on which Facemasker is for the fulfillment of his mission and which he manages, faithfully and without fail serves his rider and always contributes to the execution of sentences, even if one of the perpetrators tries to hide. This unearthly, semi-human, semimetallic entity came from nowhere to expose and punish the guilty. That is the story of the creation of the name of the group, its mascot and the general concept.

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

We, as musicians, listen to very diverse music, we are interested in different things in life. But we gradually came to our music, to our choice, what kind of music we want to play. No, of course, the idea of playing thrash metal was originally conceived, but what kind of thrash metal it will be, we still vaguely understood in 2012. And in 2016, something turned upside down, we began to work harder. We improved our music and eventually came to a certain style that will be heard perfectly on our album, the recording of which we will begin in February. In the end, this is the good old speed thrash metal of the old school, mixing in itself the traditions of the American and German schools. That's how we came to our genre and our music.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Yes, we knew each other even before the formation of Anmasker. But guitarist Sergey Belikov joined the band later - only in 2016, when we met him. In the band at this time there were two more people in the lineup, but in 2017 we decided to reduce the line-up to a trio. Finally, in the form of a trio, we began to gain momentum. We realized that it is in this form that we make the best results.

4. Each band member favourite band?

We all listen to very different music. We don’t disdain both classical and jazz music as well. We all love just quality music regardless of the genre. We love both classical and jazz, as well as the most diverse styles in the world of rock and metal music. But it was our common love for thrash metal that united us into one strong band. But at the same time, we are all versatile individuals.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Much. First and foremost is the love of music, without which it is difficult for us to live a day. We truly love what we do. And a lot of things inspire us to write this or that song - from simple everyday situations that surround us everywhere to historical and so on.

6. Where was your last gig?

Our last gig took place in mid-November in Ukraine, in the rock club «MADiSAN» (Krivoy Rog city), after which we started working on a single that we released at the end of December 2018.

7. Where would you like to act?

This year we plan to perform at several festivals and in some cities of Ukraine. But our main goal is to take part in major foreign festivals and tours, to which we are striving at the moment. We want to go first to the neighboring European countries. But at the moment our main task in the first half of the year is to release album, the recording of which we will begin in February 2019.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Ohhh, too long to list) The list would have been very long)

9. Whom not?

We wouldn’t like to play on the same stage with shitty and faceless bands. Unfortunately, nowadays there are too many of them, and good bands are also suffering from this stream.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

It comes with time. With each performance you begin to feel more and more relaxed and the best way to overcome the fear of the stage is only as often as possible to perform in front of different audiences. But if you don’t stop being afraid of this, then you have nothing to do in this craft. It turns out that you are afraid of your own creativity.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Oh, too many of them to list all. We can only say that these are the most diverse bands of different eras - from the 50s and 60s to our time.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

The situation when one of our listeners asked to take a picture with us at the end of the speech. She really liked it. But the snag is that when she shot with us, she thought that we were a completely different band) She didn’t even suspect that she was taking picture with Anmasker). She just didn’t read the poster).

13. What do you think of your fans?

All of them are sincere and wonderful people)

14. What do you think of our site?

You are doing a wonderful job! It is thanks to such rusursam as yours, the mass of information about the groups reaches the masses. Such things are very important for groups. Patience and prosperity to you!

15. Something add?

Good luck, patience, strength and metallic mood! Listen to only high-quality music and expect an album from us soon!
