Interviews: Friday Night Lights

In this new occassion we have had the opportunity to interview the Punk Rock/Post-Hardcore band Friday Night Lights from UK. Check out the interview and this band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

Just after meeting up about starting a band, I was working away and  I watched the film Friday Night Lights and really connected with the film, soundtrack and what it stood for, I thought as a band we stood for a lot of the same values too. It was something we all agreed on and as a name it seemed to give the feeling of what we were going for in the music.

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

I think over time our music has changed but we have always taken influence from many of the bands from this genre and unlike other  alternative sub genres, post hardcore never sold out and always mostly kept its original sound.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Yes, we have been in other bands together, worked together at music venues as well as being long time friends.

4. Each band member favourite band?

Rik - Texas is the reason, a big influence on my life and the genre.
Liam - Dinosaur pile-up, A Leeds (hometown) band with so much fun and energy in them.
Sean -  Ataris, my all time favoutire, they we’re the soundtrack to a lot of my life.
Gaz – Nirvana, Can’t beat the classics!.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Lyrically; life events, a catchy line I will hear someone say, something in a book, a situation, although everything is personally related, musically whatever happens at practice, we usually start with a jam and then we all lock onto a sound and take it from there. Its rare that we write something alone and then develop together, it all comes from collaborative sessions.

6. Where was your last gig?

Santiago’s , Leeds a home town favourite venue.

7. Where would you like to act?

Rik- Latvia  .
Lem - Germany.
Sean - Spain.
Gaz - Seattle

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Rik - Sam fox back in 85 hah.
Liam – Everclear.
Sean – Osker.
Gaz - Bad Religion

9. Whom not?

Rik - Sam fox 2018 hah.
Liam - Kanye west.
Sean - 1975 (can’t stand them).
Gaz - Panic at the disco (urgh)

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

I (Liam) used to get Elvis leg (nervous) when I took over vocals in my first band in school, It took 3 weeks to get past it but when I eventually started singing it just got easier and easier...just enjoy your music, don’t be too serious then you can laugh off mistakes. Also being in a band has been the biggest confidence boost for my life in general.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Jawbreaker, Samiam, Dangerous summer, Get up kids, Bluetip.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

In Ukraine a guy asked us all to autograph a scooby-doo tattoo on his leg, we signed a lot of body parts that night.

13. What do you think of your fans?

Fans are so important , it makes the band have an end purpose and it gives us a reason to visit venues in whatever country and make memories with people we would never get to meet. I think we make music for people that want to hear the same things as us, so when we meet people that like what we do, we’re meeting people just like us.

14. What do you think of our site?

We love the site, In the UK alternative music is kind of losing its popularity a bit, which can’t be helped but it just means that sites like this are way more important to help connect fans with bands. Especially being more Europe based its great for helping connect from different countries.

15. Something add?

We’ve just released our 3rd E.P “First Blood” and a video for the single “Kites” on all Digital platforms and are booking to come back to Europe this summer so people should keep their eyes peeled.
