Interviews: A Page Unturned

In this new occassion we have had the opportunity to interview the Pop Punk band A Page Unturned from USA. Check out the interview and this band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

Ryan: Damon came up with the band name, I’ll let you answer this one D

Yoshihiro: Damon hit upon the name after discussing about it for a few months. I loved it immediately because the message felt positive to me. We have many unturned pages in our life and even if everything’s broken up, I believe hope is always around me.

Damon: Just came out really. I thought of the phrase “judging a book by its cover”. That idea of not looking deeper into something that could possibly be something great.

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

Ryan: It’s a genre I thrive at and a style I’ve always loved to play as well as listen too.

Yoshihiro: Pop punk music always cheered me up. So I just wanted be an energetic musician and cheer up everybody by my music.

Damon: I listened to Green Day a lot when I was a kid because my Mom liked the “Dookie” album a lot. So I’ve had pop punk music instilled in my brain since pretty much birth. I just love the energy that comes with it.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Ryan: Nope. My dad found these guys on Bandmix while helping me look for bands to play in.

Yoshihiro: No, I met Damon through Craigslist. He posted an ad about wanting to form a band so I emailed him.

Damon: What they said.

4. What is each band member’s favorite band?

Ryan: That’s a tough question. Top 3; Blink-182, Issues, The Used.

Yoshihiro: New Found Glory, All Time Low, State Champs, AS it is, ELLEGARDEN and One Ok Rock

Damon: I can’t have just one, that’s not possible lol. I love a lot of different types of music but I’ll choose three of the lot and say Augustana, Green Day and John Mayer

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Ryan: Everything. Whether that be things I go through in life, or listening to a band that really inspires me. Anything can make you want to write a song.

Yoshihiro: As for me, no one inspires me. It’s like no painters are inspired by someone. It’s just fun and the only chance to be able to focus on expressing myself completely. Writing songs is my way of life, it’s the biggest challenge in my life and motivates me to be best I can be.

Damon: Life…and a nice 3 by 3 from In N Out with fries and a coke. A meal made from heaven.

6. Where was your last gig?

Ryan: Garden Grove Amphitheater opening for Unwritten Law.

Yoshihiro: It was really great. The venue was an open air theatre and we performed with a beautiful sunset soon after it rained. it is a definite highlight in 2018.

7. Where would you most like to play?

Ryan: Japan and Australia

Yoshihiro: Open air venues. I’ve performed in them multiple times and they were always great. An opportunity like a music festival would be great. The atmosphere always makes my soul free.

Damon: Vans Warped Tour. Kevin Lyman, if you see this...Please.

8. Whom would you like to perform with?

Ryan: State Champs or Blink 182

Yoshihiro: All Time Low, State Champs, As it is, and One Ok Rock

Damon: Gardenside, Neck Deep, Stand Atlantic, and The Story so Far to name a few.

9. Whom not?

Ryan: Stupid question, I’m not going to bash on someone’s band.

Yoshihiro: The legends like Green Day, Blink-182, New Found Glory. They will beat us Lol.

Damon: First off I’d like to say Yoshihiro is insane. I would love to perform with those bands he listed. Whom not? The creators who wrote “Baby Shark”, we would be truly out shined and I would have that song stuck in my head for months after.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Ryan: Not really. I’m always a little nervous before a show but more excited than anything. Just play and have fun. Don’t worry about looking cool or sounding good. Just play.

Yoshihiro: In the beginning of my music career, I always became nervous and I think it’s like a rite of passage for all of performers. I believe using all of my effort without compromising would’ve helped me then. I just do my best every day. It took a year to beat it completely and I had no more concerns on stage

Damon: I have been super nervous before but with time I got used to being on stage. I’m always a tiny bit nervous but it’s more exciting. I have developed a system to get ready and here it is. Read and learn kids… go piss, warmup, stretch, go piss again, drink water, If it’s around…drink some liquid courage (if you are of age), breathe, piss one more time and go perform. Easy J

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Ryan: Tons. NOFX, Blink, The Used, New Found Glory, Paledusk, our Band; the list goes on.

Yoshihiro: ELLEGARDEN

Damon: Green Day, Augustana, The Beatles, Brian Wilson, Oasis and John Mayer to name a few.

12.What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Ryan: Asking me to marry them. That was weird yet flattering.

Yoshihiro: MARRY ME!

Damon: Haven’t had any weird questions asked of me yet. No marriage proposal for me either. Now I am sad…

13. What do you think of your fans?

Ryan: I love all of our fans, they’re so supportive and it’s so cool to have so many people that like our music and support us. I try my absolute best to give that love back to them through our music.

Yoshihiro: They are a part of my family and are absolutely necessary for my life. If they were not here, pursuing my dream would be impossible. Their supports always mean a lot to me.

Damon: I know I’m going to sound like a pretentious douche by saying this but I don’t like calling them “fans”, it’s weird to me. They are our supporters, my family baby and I loves them! Best in the universe!

14. What do you think of our site?

Ryan: Rad!

Yoshihiro: It’s really good!

Damon: I like it! I’ve read the interviews and follow the playlist on Spotify, which everybody should do. I like creators who share awesome music so keep doing what you guys are doing and thank you for you for having us on your site!

15. Anything to add?

Ryan: Thanks for the interview and thank you to everyone that checked it out. New music is on the way.
