Interviews: Efreeti

In this new occassion we have had the opportunity to interview the  Metal band Efreeti from Norway. Check out the interview and this band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it, or it came out just like that?

The name Efreeti was initially based on a creature in Heroes of Might and Magic 3, inferno town, but made plural.

The more we learned about the actual myths behind the creature the more it made sense to use it as a theme in our songs, and there are also many stories about the demon in Arabic mythology.

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

I have always loved metal music, so it was natural for me to play heavy stuff when I picked up a guitar. Sometimes I try playing other styles, but it doesn't work for me.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Me (Kristian) and other founding member Marius Solli went to school together, so it was a pretty easy start. Our other starting members also went to the same school, but as we started moving around Efreeti became more and more a solo project.

4. Each band member favorite band?

Personally, I’m really into Devin Townsend at the moment, but it varies from time to time. Eetu Pesu's favorite is Swallow the sun.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

For me it's about igniting certain feelings and moods or telling a story. Sometimes it goes weeks between my good sessions. Sometimes I’m really inspired, but not able to make the music I imagine. At that point I often give up, wait a few days and try again.

6. What bands have inspired you the most?

I pick up small details from all over the place Bands like Gojira, Meshuggah, Samael, Pantera makes most sense, but then, there’s odd ones like Maybeshewill, The prodigy, Dr dre, Shels, Animal alpha. Eetu says Lordi inspired him to start playing drums.

7. What about your new one, “Its Inner Pain”?

“Its inner pain” started as an accordion chord progression i really like. You can hear it faintly in the main riff.

Then I just build upon that, and what it made me feel. I think I was able to capture it pretty good, and hopefully it makes other people feel something too!

8. Where was your last gig?

It has been a little while, but it was a band battle in Arendal, Norway for a spot at wacken. Didn't get much out of it, but it was a fun show!

9. Have you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

I think it’s natural to have some anxiety before performing. But once you get into it it gets easier. I know many big names do well by making a persona on stage. That’s why you see many artists transform into another person on stage!

10. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

I don’t think we have had any super weird requests so far, sorry to disappoint!

11. What do you think of your fans?

Most our fans are pretty passive so far, but I’ve only had good experiences meeting people that enjoy our music. I hope i get to know more of them!

12. The last words are for you. Something to add?

Thanks for the interview! Our album drops 8th of March. We've spent a lot of time making the songs, so I hope you'll check it out!
