Interviews: Endimion

In this new occassion we have had the opportunity to interview the Death Metal/Doom Metal band Endimion from Chile. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE

1.Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or cameout just like that?

It was kind of a coincidence, 15 years ago a guy commented that endimion was a kind of demon, we liked it and we adopted as a name, it wasn't until 2006, when we knew that he was the protagonist of a greek myth, “Endimion and selene”, at this new record, we decided to take charge for the name through a parallel story that we created, based on the real myth, showing a story based on nightmares and terror.

2.Why did you want to play this genre?

We felt identified with the expressiveness that doom metal allows, because in it we found a space of cultural/artistic expresion, both lyrical and musical, that not all sub-genres of metal allow.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

The band began with three brothers (Tomas, Matias and Victor) and two friends, obviously we knew each other from years. On the actual formation, Matias Ibañez and Francisco Campos, know each other from 12 years, the rest of the band is really new.

4. Each band member favourite band?

Matias: MyDying Bride
Francisco: Opeth
Alejandro: Deftones
Tannus: Gris

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

In general, the composition is inspired on the desire of introspection, the analysis of the being and fears, wraths and darkness. Latmus, particullary, was written in reference of the myth of edimion and selene, but from a dark and desperate perspective, adding personal experience associated to sleep paralysis. Is a non romantic reinterpretation of the story who equally potraits, aspects of our own lives, in how we found ourselves stucked on situations we don’t want and we find difficult to get out.

6. Where was your last gig?

Our last show was in Talcahuano, near our city, before that, we played in concepción and Osorno . We will be playing on Lima, Peru, next months.

7. Where would you like to act?

We would like to play in every city of our country, tour in south america and get to play in Europe, a big dream would be to play in big festivals of doom metal like “Madrid is the dark fest”, “Malta doom metal fest” etc.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

It would be really cool to share stage with big bands of metal in general, My Dying Bride, Opeth, Ne obliviscaris, Mourning Beloveth, Lock up, Enslaved… there are tons of bands we would really like to play with.

9. Whom not?

Any band of open neonazi tendency.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Afortunatelly no, nevertheless i think it would be a good advice to focus in what youre doing (play- sing) and give yourself to it, without thinking about the mistakes that could ruin the presentation.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

I think we have a mix of influences really different from doom, as i mention before, there are some members that listen to other kinds of metal, death, heavy, core, also a lot of rock, progressive, grunge and some latin american folklore, and maybe even more extreme bands, like Cannibal corpse and more directly related to us, My dying bride.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Many years ago, we were asked to throw a disc to the audience, in a half empty concert.

13. What do you think of your fans?

In chile, the fans of doom metal are really kind and always paying attention to the bands of the style. We in particular, are really popular in the south of our country and that is a mayor motivation.

14. What do you think of our site?

We found interesting the support given to the bands that are not massively known, letting the reader know music beyond of what is actually known.

15. Something add?

Thank you for the space , keep supponting the underground metal in the world, Greetings from Concepción, Chile.
