Interviews: The Lunar Process

In this new occassion we have had the opportunity to interview the Metalcore band The Lunar Process from UK. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

We were just brainstorming ideas and then the word “Lunarium” was thrown into the mix, which then turned into “The Lunar theory” and then into the “The Lunar Process”. This made the most sense to us considering a lot of what happens in the band whether it be writing songs, group discussions etc, happens at night.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

This varies within the band, Ted (Drums) fell in love with heavy music after hearing slipknot when he was about 7, and the rest of us are just really into the vibe of the genre and love how it can vary from ambient soft sections to brutal crushing breakdowns and grooves.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Besides some occasional talk at shows between Sam (Vocalist) and Lewis (Guitar), none of us really knew each other at all before joining the band. Through the member changes/auditions we found each other and just all got along and clicked well.

4. Each band member favourite band?

None of us can really pick a definite favourite but at the minute our favourites are:

Lewis (Guitar) - Hollow Front, Aviana
Ted (Drums) - Thy Art Is Murder, Veil of Maya
Nav (Guitar) - Thornhill, Invent Animate, Polaris
Gromitt (Bass) - Crumb
Sam (Vocals) - Meshuggah, Periphery, Tool

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Seeing our friends in other bands progress and release amazing material, talking to other band members about their approach to music, and just going to shows in general can send a creative rush to some of us.

6. Where was your last gig?

Our hometown of Leeds!

7. Where would you like to act?

We’d love to branch out across the UK and then eventually perform overseas! Maybe even in the same venues that our favourite acts have performed in.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

All of our favourite bands hahaha. Or just any band we haven’t heard of before, it’s always nice discovering new bands because there are some hidden gems out there for sure!

9. Whom not?

We want to perform alongside anyone we can, but it’s a little disappointing when we see bands (more so headliners), load in, sound-check, and then either leave or just sit at the back on their phones instead of giving the opening bands a bit of support. It really doesn’t seem like much, but standing with the crowd can really go a long way, especially for bands just starting out. So I guess we wouldn’t really like to perform with bands like this as much, but luckily our scene is full of extremely talented and supportive bands that really put in the effort to support one another. Shout out to Isolate, The Mechanist, Pravitas, On Hollow Ground, Master the Crown and all the bands keeping the metal scene alive in Leeds!

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip
for beginners on how to beat that?

The majority of us don’t really get stage fright much because we’re all just really hyped to be playing shows, but stage fright definitely occurs for Lewis every show, but it’s just a case of him putting on his brave face. It did occur for Ted as well for a couple of gigs because he was a new member of the band, but you’ve got to remember: A. as a local band starting up, you’re not going to be playing to a sold out stadium every show so if you do mess up, it’s not the end of the world because most of the crowd probably won’t even notice. So go back to the drawing board, tighten up, and get back to it. And B. The biggest bands in the world mess up all the time, everyone messes up, it’s how you recover that matters.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Old school Asking Alexandria and A Day to remember. For Today and Breakdown of Sanity for sure. Also some old school deathcore/death metal.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Just after a gig, Nav was asked for a pick, he had none left (I swear picks go to another dimension when you drop them) so he gave a setlist instead. Then got asked to sign it.

This isn’t exactly a weird thing but more of a shock considering we’d only played that city once before and just wasn’t really expecting it to be honest hahaha.

13. What do you think of your fans?

Nothing but love. To anyone that checks us out, whether they love our music or hate it, we can’t be more grateful. If someone takes the time to listen to a song, share a Face Book post, come to a show, buy a shirt etc, then we have nothing but love and respect for them.

14. What do you think of our site?

It’s a great site for keeping up to date with all the metal/core scenes around the world and we love how much effort is put into giving upcoming bands that extra push that they need when just starting off.

15. Something add?

Big thanks to Beneath the Core for asking us to be a part of this interview! Check out our new single ‘Lifeless’ available on all major streaming platforms!
