Interviews: CABRAKAÄN

In this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Symphonic Metal band CABRAKAÄN from Mexico. Check out the interview and follow the band on their  FACEBOOK PAGE

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

Well, as you know, one of the ancient cultures that settled in Mexico aside from the Aztecs were the Mayans. Their creation story, Popol Vuh, describes a god known as Cabrakán.

Cabrakán was very powerful and would shake the earth to annoy the other gods. For that reason, he is known as the god of mountains and earthquakes. With such a strong meaning behind it, Cabrakán seemed like the perfect name to represent our music. We changed the spelling later just to make it look cooler.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

We think metal brings people together and gives existential meaning to most of us metalheads. It's a complex music genre because it is certainly quite a challenge to make it sound tight, harmonized and aggressive at the same time. Also, according to some researchers listening to heavy metal may be a healthy way of processing anger.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Not really. Pat and I co-founded the project in 2012, and the other members recently joined us two years ago.

4. Each band member favorite band?

Pat: Faun
Marko: Amon Amarth
Paolo: Alestorm
Alex: Pantera
Rex: The Offspring

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Mexico inspires us. Its history, traditions, and colors. The folklore that was born after the Spanish conquest in which both cultures collided to become one of the most beautiful in the world. We are proud of our roots and that's the best inspiration.

6. Where was your last gig?

At Regina, SK, on a tour called March Of The Frozen North, across Western Canada

7. Where would you like to act?

At Wacken for sure, it’s the biggest and most famous metal festival in Europe so definitely one of our goals is to perform there someday.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Nightwish, Alestorm, Amon Amarth, Wintersun, Delain, Epica...

9. Whom not?

Haha, we really don't mind who we play with - as long as it's music.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Yes, Pat and Paolo have suffered from stage fright from the beginning of their music careers. Pat has told me that the best way to overcome stage fright is by knowing the songs as well as possible - that makes her feel more comfortable. Building your experience by performing at every opportunity is the most effective way to beat stage fright!

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Nightwish, Epica, Alestorm, Amon Amarth, Kalmah, Wintersun, Iron Maiden, Faun, Within Temptation, Eluveitie, Pantera...

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

One time, a fan asked Paolo if he could sign one of his butt cheeks. The funniest thing is that Paolo agreed and signed it haha

13. What do you think of your fans?

Well, we wouldn't call them fans since we are not famous or anything, but the people that support us are amazingly faithful and respectful. We love them all!

14. What do you think of our site?

We like it! It's a great way for new bands to be known by people from all around the world. Keep up the good work!

15. Something to add?

Our new album Cem Anahuac My Home is coming really soon, so stay tuned! Please check out our first single - Calm In My Storm
