Interviews: Life After Last

In this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Metalcore band Life After Last from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

We were originally called "Gods Shall Burn", but recently changed it to Life After Last which was originally the title of our most recent EP that was just released. Due to unforeseen circumstances, we decided to drop the "Gods Shall Burn" name and decided to call ourselves "Life After Last". Our guitarist Bryan came up with the name actually, and the meaning is to start a new life after a troublesome past.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

We all grew up listening to metal and hardcore, some of us branch out into different genres as well. For instance, John (vocalist) has a love for old hardcore/punk, and Bryan (guitarist) has a huge Van Halen influence. But generally, we all had a love for Metallica, Slayer, Pantera, etc...growing up.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

We all knew each other for quite some time. John (vocals), Rob (guitar), and Chris (drums) knew each other since they were 5 or 6 yrs old, they grew up together. As we got into the music scene more and got into bands, we met Elliott (bass) who we played gigs with way back when while he was in a different band. We all kind of parted ways for about a decade, then reunited. In the meantime, Rob and Bryan crossed paths and the rest is history.

4. Each band member favorite band?

John (36 Crazyfists), (Bryan (Deftones), Rob (Parkway Drive), Elliott (Deftones), Chris (Machine Head)

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Generally, the inspiration comes from real life circumstances, upbringing, and the struggles of life. Things we believe a lot of people can relate to. 6. Where was your last gig? The Depot (York, PA), upcoming show we are opening for Chelsea Grin in Reading, PA.

7. Where would you like to act?

Nothing big, we would love to play at Blondie's in London and record a Kerrang K! Pit there. We really are attracted to the smaller intimate venues.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

That is a tough question, but we would love to share the stage with Parkway Drive or Architects. They are killing it right now! 9. Whom not? We appreciate every opportunity provided to us and would not reject any chance to get our music out there.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

There are always the butterflies in the stomach when the lights dim and your seconds from going on to the stage. But as soon as that first song starts, they disappear!

There is no way to beat it! But, if you stay focused and work hard during rehearsals that confidence will carry over to your live performances and hopefully make the experience more comfortable.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

There is a ton! Parkway Drive, Architects, August Burns Red, Machine Head, Deftones, The Ghost Inside, Hatebreed, Killswitch Engage Metallica, Sepultura, 36 Crazyfists, Bury Tomorrow, the list goes on!

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Our autographs haha! We are just regular people doing what we always had a passion for our teenage years.

13. What do you think of your fans?

We appreciate each and every person that chooses to spend their time and hard earned money to either purchase music online OR buy a ticket to come to see us live. We are always humbled by that. We had a fan just recently on our Bandcamp page pay $100 for our recent EP!!! We were at a loss for words seeing that, but much appreciated!

14. What do you think of our site?

You guys are killing it! We love the "Behind the Tracks" portion of your site. It gives great insight into what a band is feeling or going through at that time. Also, the fact that your team works off donations is unbelievable and shows how much passion you have for what you are doing here at Breathing the Core!

15. Something add?

Yes, a big thank you for this interview opportunity! And to everyone out there in the Breathing the Core community, go check out our latest self titled EP, engineered and recorded by none other than Chris Davis of "The Ghost Inside"
