Interviews: Blavk Orb

In this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Post-Metal band Blavk Orb from Spain. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

Blavk Orb is the result of intense brainstorming. Maybe two, or more, weeks writing down names and names of any kind in the band’s instant messenger, just to recreate the concepts such as elegant, emotional and devastating. And we found a hidden anagram that adds a mysterious point too.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

We wanted to compose freely, using as many different styles of metal as needed. I mean, from an initial point in a song, if the inspiration leads you to different styles, just let it go. Metal to the bone!

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Yes, we know us from a long time ago. We were close friends before. Even at one point, we shared one band during two or three months. We were doing shows and recording songs from a bunch of years together with different projects and more people involved.

4. Each band member favorite band?

Rafa: I’ll choose Gojira. Daniel Nogales: Explosions in the sky. Daniel Solé: Pantera

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Sometimes it is as simple as an interesting conversation, comment or concept. We discuss different things taking some beers or meanwhile, we are going to somewhere, and that leads into a spark when you get home and sit down with your instrument thinking about what we have said before.

6. Where was your last gig?

Actually, it was our biggest gig until the moment. It was the final of a contest/festival in Mollet del Vallès (close to Barcelona) with great sound and a huge screen behind us, in which we could display the visuals that complete our show. As a result, we were found winners!

7. Where would you like to act?

Think big! So, big festivals! Anywhere! We launch new material almost every year, so we think opportunities will arrive.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

If we have to choose we would say especially with Obsidian Kingdom. One of our main inspirations to begin this artistic project and they are from Barcelona too.

9. Whom not?

That crappy autotune rap movement that is big currently in Spain, we are too old to understand it.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

No, we don’t get a freeze on stage, only a bit nervous before we kick the stage, but when you start playing it drops. To beat it, maybe you can warm up a lot before and think that it is not an exam, is just you doing what you like and sharing your composition to other people.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

We listen to a lot of different genres that can lead to a riff or a melody, or even a noise, that will be featured on a song. If we have to pick bands: Obsidian Kingdom, Cult of Luna and Alcest from the very beginning, but there are many other that inspire us every day.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

We think we are far weirder that our fans...

13. What do you think of your fans?

We make music just the way we like, and when someone shows us that they like the songs, the visuals and the show, this is the bigger reward for us.

14. What do you think of our site?

It is very important supporting new bands, you are our voice in the networks and it is a big help to spread our work.

15. Something add?

Many thanks for the support, to Breathing the Core and their readers.
