Interviews: DESTROY PLANETS!

In this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Modern Metal band DESTROY PLANETS! from the UK. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

Adam picked the name Destroy Planets because the idea is that the riffs are meant to be heavy enough to Destroy Planets! but obviously, that’s up to our audience, not us. Aaron did not like the name for a long time and then eventually he accepted that it was quirk and it grew on him.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

There was no real plan to be a certain genre. If anything we want to avoid being classed as a certain genre. Metal is already split amongst so many sub-genre and the fans are so passionate about these sub-genres it can cause a divide amongst metal fans. It can also make it harder for bands like us who are just starting out to know where to play as beatdown fans don’t like metalcore etc and we are just a metal band. So I guess we are a metal band because we all love metal in one way or another.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

I and Adam knew each other for roughly 10 years before but lost touch along the way. We bumped into each other at a festival and Adam mentioned that he was getting a band going and asked me to come down. Nathan, Brad and Aaron are all childhood friends that went to school together and all that stuff. Aaron met Adam on Joinmyband randomly looking for drummers.

4. Each band member favourite band?

I love Lesbian Bed Death, Five Finger Death Punch and Motionless In White. I couldn’t choose out of them. Aaron and Nathan's favourite band is Trivium, they go see them every opportunity they get. Brad loves Dream Theatre and anything progressive. Adam loves Enter Shikari, Emmure and Slipknot.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

My main inspiration so far is situations I have found myself in with my family that have left me feeling either not good enough or where someone is not making effort with me. This is not just partner relationships its friends and family too.

6. Where was your last gig?

We just played Wigan along with Fear Me December which was good fun. It was a very personal show where you are really close to the crowd.

7. Where would you like to play?

You know! We always joke about one day headlining Wembley, which we know is crazy but who knows. I think that we joke about it that much it would be amazing to actually do it. Other than that your obvious huge festivals, Download, Wacken, Bloodstock etc.

8. Who would you like to support?

All of our favourite bands! Aaron and Nathan would love to support Killswitch, Bullet (especially because they are a UK giant) Machine Head and Imagine supporting Slipknot! Anyone really that's in the genre with us! We would love to support Foo Fighters too but that might be a difficult one!

9. Who not?

Adam says the Spice Girls because they just had recent sound issues but I have no idea what he is talking about. He must be a massive fan of the Spice Girls?

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Aaron had stage fright at our first show in Rebellion. He tried to act cool and said that he was not nervous but he told me afterwards, whilst he played the set he was that nervous he couldn’t play properly. He has not had it since though. Aaron also had stage fright for the first ever show he played when he was a kid. Must be a first show thing! Nathan doesn’t get stage fright really. Neither does anyone else really part from me, I get stage fright before we go on all the time but the bro’s take that away when we get going. also sometimes maybe a bit of nerve and anticipation. Adam was like this before we played Metal to the Masses. Aaron says that anyone who gets stage fright, there is either two ways to get rid of it. You either learn your songs that much that you can just go out there and have fun rather than worrying about what you are playing. The best thing about playing original songs and not covers is that if you mess it up nobody knows! We had some absolute howlers on stage that people have thought where part of our set because if it goes wrong it doesn’t really matter. Just try to look good doing it. At the end of the day, you are playing on stage because you want to do it and find it fun. As long as you remember that the stage fright will eventually go away. Or, you just keeping playing shows building your confidence until it goes away. You might always be nervous before you play and that’s fine it shows that you care about being on stage.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Outside of musical influence on our first show, we played with a Portuguese band called ARY. They have supported bands like Bury Tomorrow and are a big hit in Portugal. They played before us on our first ever show. We were on after them because we were a Manchester band in Manchester. Anyway, their sound was so polished that when they got on stage we were all looking at each other like, how are we going to follow this on our first ever show. But that lit a fire in us and we understand how good some of the bands are out there and if you are serious about entertaining people that you best bring your A* game every single time because your A game is not good enough. ARY taught us this lesson so thanks ARY! our friends in Above Our Instinct where on that night too ( we made friends there ) and they were on point too and have always pushed us from when we started.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Actually, there is nothing weird that a fan has asked us for but we do have a good fan story. So one day Adam was having a particularly bad day and he is blasting our single Ikon which at the time was unreleased. Anyway, Adam drives to the KFC drive-thru and orders his chicken and this dude (obviously a metal head) asks Adam who he is listening to. Adam being Adam gets into a conversation with the KFC guy about Destroy Planets and from there he has been to nearly every single show. He even gets us discount at KFC now whenever we go. I would name drop him but I wouldn’t want to get him into trouble with work in case he is not meant to give us a discount! Funny world.

13. What do you think of your fans?

Our fans are the best. They have supported us through everything. They share everything, watch everything, talk to us, tell us what they think. We try to reply to every single comment on anything where anyone has given us the time of day to let us know what they think of Destroy Planets. We value everybody that has ever give us criticism that has pushed us to be better. Anyone who knows about Destroy Planets we thank you from the bottom of our hearts and hope we have a long future together! We would like to give a special mention to Craig Chapman and Steve Lyth! these guys run a page for female fronted bands and have supported us from day one relentlessly. without people like these new bands, these days would struggle so much more as there is so much content out there on the internet now. There are loads of other fans and people we could talk about but to anybody who has helped Destroy Planets so far. THANK YOU!

14. What do you think of our site?

We stand by what we said about our fans including you! Anyone who helps any bands deserves credit. The website looks tight and you are doing awesome things for awesome bands. Without websites/magazines willing to take chances on new bands we would have nowhere to go. You see it loads that your favourite band was once a local band and its websites like BREATHING THE CORE that helps bridge the enormous jump for local bands.

15. Something to add?

YEAH! thank you very much for interviewing us! To anybody who is interested in us feel free to message us and talk to us. make sure you check out our debut EP, Mass X Gravity which releases on all major streaming platforms on 23/08/2019!
