Interviews: Hell & Hollar

In this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Stoner Rock/Alternative Rock band Hell & Hollar from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

Blake Burns: My friend Jean who started the band with me actually heard it in a Hank III song. He called me and asked what I thought of it. I knew right away that was our name!

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Blake Burns: I have loved rock music my whole life and playing guitar since I was really young. So it's really just a part of me.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Blake Burns: I have known Ian for a long time. We have been mountain biking together for a while and I knew him when he was a kid coming in the Surf/Skate shop I was working in a long time ago. Johnny, I met after we started H&H and Nate I have to know for about as long as the band has been in existence. Johnny Dusko: I met Blake at a guitar shop and we exchanged numbers since the band needed a bass player to complete the original 3 piece lineup.

4. Each band member favorite band?

Blake Burns: Right now I am on a big Frank Black and The Catholics kick. But I have a few favorites that kinda rotate in and out.

Johnny Dusko: King Crimson.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Blake Burns: Other musicians, all the music that came before, life and everything that it is. Johnny Dusko: It could be another artist, or sometimes using a new piece of gear can be inspirational.

6. Where was your last gig?

Blake Burns: Our last show was at Respectable Street in West Palm Beach.

7. Where would you like to act?

Blake Burns: Anywhere that people want to hear us.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Blake Burns: So many. Queens of The Stone Age, Clutch, Frank Black just to name a few.

9. Whom not?

Blake Burns: I seriously would be happy to share a stage with anyone. Any opportunity to share our music is a good one.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Blake Burns: I never have. I have always enjoyed getting up in front of a lot of people and performing. Tips would be to remember they are all there to listen to you and all you need to do is give them your best. Be confident in yourself. Own that stage. Make it yours.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Blake Burns: Clutch, QOTSA, Frank Black and The Catholics, Deep Purple, Jimi Hendrix, Elvis, Johnny Cash. All of them have made a major impact on me as a musician. Johnny Dusko: Rush, the Mars Volta, Frank Zappa

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Blake Burns: Haven't gotten any really weird ones yet.

13. What do you think of your fans?

Blake Burns: Without them we are nothing. I really enjoy talking to fans after shows. It's always great to connect with the people that care about what you are doing and get to know them a bit.

14. What do you think of our site?

Blake Burns: What you guys are doing is fantastic. It is great that you guys are helping bands get out there to the people that want to hear it. That's something all bands need help with.

15. Something to add?

Blake Burns: We will be on the road this summer so stay up to date by following our social media. We will be in Johnson City TN June 26th at The Hideaway, Milwaukee Wi for Summerfest June 28th on the Uline Warehouse Stage, June 29th in Fairfield Iowa which we will officially announce soon, July 2nd in Raleigh NC at The Pour House, and July 4th in Atlanta GA at Smith's Old Bar.
