Interviews: Slant

In this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Hard Rock/Metal band Slant from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?

Munir: The definition of slant means to look or perceive something in a different way. The songs we play are our interpretations and personal views. The name Slant just fits.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Munir: When we first started writing songs, they fell right into the rock genre. We write from our emotions, everyday occurrences, and state of mind. The outcome just so happens to be loud and melodic.

Fahim: I grew up listening to bands like Tool, Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots, The Doors etc. The bands that influenced the sound carried on to the type of music created.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Munir: I knew Fahim since childhood. We met Jimmy and Josh through the Los Angeles music scene.

Fahim: Munir and I have known each other since we were children, our family ties are strong.

4. Each band member favorite band?

Munir: Nirvana, Tool

Fahim: Tool, Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots

Josh: Linkin Park, Bring Me The Horizon, Blessthefall, While She Sleeps

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Munir: People always say I’m noticeably different right after I pick up the guitar. Writing songs for me is more of an overall release, and that feeling inspires me. Fahim – Most of our songs have a similar trend: Listeners can hear about our life experiences, observations; and what we have learned about our lives. Mainly, the human condition and how each of us has experienced different life-changing moments.

6. Where was your last gig?

Munir: The Whisky A Go Go in Los Angeles. I think with Alien Ant Farm 7. Where would you like to act?

Munir: South America

Fahim: We have performed throughout Europe a few times on tour. I agree with Munir. Let’s rock South America next.

8. Whom would you like to feature(perform with) with?

Munir: Tool, Deftones, Bring me the Horizon

Fahim: Guns And Roses: Later this year, we share the stage with them for the first time ever at a festival in Mexico. It’s going to be an exciting experience/show that I look forward to. 9. Whom not? Munir – Hmmm…being that I am not a fan of disco….the BeeGees. I am sure they are good people, but I would not want to hear Dancing Queen live.

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Munir: I always have a bit of it right before we play but it goes away as soon as the guys and I hit the stage to perform. My tip is that the feeling never fully goes away. Find a way to let it be.

Fahim: I think it just takes time. The more you are willing to get up on stage and perform, the better you get at it. It's like anything in life, practice is key. Just do your best and remember the next time you will be even better.

Josh: I used to get incredibly nervous before performing. I eventually was able to convince myself that nobody at the show is there to watch you fail. They are all rooting for you. It’s ok to make mistakes and that’s the best part of a LIVE performance.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Munir: Too many to name. I’m inspired by a lot of aspects of music. But to answer the question I’ll name a few: Jimmy Hendrix, Nirvana, Tool, Slipknot, The Used, Alien Ant Farm, Deftones, Alice and Chains, Sublime.

Josh: Incubus, DC Talk, Blindside, Story of the Year.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Munir: A piece of my hair

Fahim: Sexual favors.....I’m just kidding (..or not) haha. This is not weird per say, but it’s a true commitment to our musical journey when a fan asks/mentions getting lyric tattoos. I'd say there are some extreme love and dedication and I am glad we have that connection with listeners. The fact that our words and music mean that much to someone is something we are glad to support. Our song Broken Wings has had lyrics tattooed on a few body parts.

13. What do you think of your fans?

Munir: They are great personalities. A pillar to what we do and they really like to party.

Fahim: We love them. We can't thank them enough for their support and the encouragement they provide. Every time they bring a new friend to a show to experience Slant is amazing, it’s a true bond to share music with one another.

14. What do you think of our site?

Munir: Truly appreciate what you’re doing for music.

15. Something to add?

Munir: Challenge yourself to discover new music. There is a lot of it out.
